Angelina Jolie Says Her Marriage With Brad Pitt Is ‘Very Stable’ Despite Their Joint Dramatic Film

Angelina Jolie might have spent her honeymoon fighting with her husband Brad Pitt, but it’s not what you think. The couple filmed a movie called By The Sea, about a tumultuous couple going through a rough patch in their relationship. The fact that the film was both written and directed by Angelina Jolie piqued the public’s interest and had a few people raising their eyebrows. Was this an autobiographical account on the couple’s relationship?

Well, if you were hoping to hear any gossip about “Brangelina,” don’t hold your breath, because in their first joint interview together, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt look as happy as can be as a married couple. The couple sat down with NBC’s Tom Brokaw to discuss married life at home, and to promote Jolie’s third directorial effort.

Perhaps in an effort to get ahead of the rumors, Jolie spoke on the perception the film might have on the couple’s public image.

“I’m counting on the audience to know that if it was close to us at all, we could never make this film. It’s because we’re actually very, very stable and these aren’t our issues.”

That said, the material is still heavy, as the couple often had to get up in each other’s faces, and have physical altercations as well.

“I’d be directing myself and him in a scene where we’re having a fight, and I’d be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you’re frustrated with each other — it was very heavy.”

Despite the heavy material, Jolie tried to make the set light when she could, telling the Directors Guild of America in a recent interview, “We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don’t know where to stand or where to look.”

During the couple’s interview with Brokaw, her preventative surgeries were a topic of conversation. Jolie had both ovaries removed this year, and in 2013 she had a double mastectomy. She then decided to go public with the news by writing an op-ed in the New York Times, in an effort to make women aware of the BRCA gene and the test women can take to find out whether they have a mutation.

Most of all, she wanted women to know about the options they had, and the experiences that lay before them. As it just so turns out Jolie had this mutation, and experienced three women in her family die from cancer, including her mother, Marcheline.

She told Tom Brokaw that her husband Brad supported her hundred percent throughout both surgeries, which made her decision easier.

“I knew through the surgeries that [Pitt] was on my side and that this wasn’t something where I was going to feel less of a woman, because my husband wasn’t going to let that happen.”

Of his unwavering support, Pitt said, “Whatever’s got to be done to keep the family together and keep the family together as long as possible is gonna be done. This was her charge, no question. It’s a scary decision. There’s many things that can go wrong and go many different directions.”

In his own solo interview, Pitt spoke about working with Angelina as an actor, and how it felt to be directed by his wife. In an interview with Vogue magazine, the actor said that she’s decisive, intuitive, and sexy as a director. He went on to say that he trusts her with his life.
