Next Sandra Bullock Movie Will Be An All-Female ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Remake

Fans looking for the next Sandra Bullock movie only have to look to today for the release of Our Brand Is Crisis. After that, the next Sandra Bullock movie is related to the lauded Ocean’s franchise. The film is still in the planning stages, but will feature an all-female cast of con women.

George Clooney will produce the Ocean’s Eleven remake. Clooney previously starred alongside an ensemble cast led by him, Matt Damon, and Brad Pitt, among others, in 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven. That box office success was followed by Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2004 and 2007. The trilogy is based on the 1960 film Ocean’s 11, starring those icons of 1960s coolness, the Rat Pack.

Sandra currently stars in another George Clooney-produced effort. In Our Brand Is Crisis, she portrays a voracious presidential campaign strategist who goes to Bolivia to help a candidate get elected in a chaotic political climate. There she goes up against an adversary on the opposing candidate’s side played by Billy Bob Thornton. The movie is based on a documentary of the same name, which details the real life Bolivian election during the early 2000s.

As Parade details, the movie’s lackluster reviews are not the fault of Bullock or Thorton in lead roles, but because of vague and blurry story aspects. Nonetheless, it’s a great subject matter to tackle, especially during this captivating time of party nominations leading up to the 2016 presidential election here in the United States. It also gives Americans and moviegoers in other places a chance to learn about the political landscape in South America.

The Ocean’s Eleven remake is still in the planning stages, but should be either a great, belated continuation of heist caper greatness, or offer an interesting remake with a female-led cast, taking a similar approach to the gender swapping of classic movies as does the upcoming Ghostbusters 3.

The new Ocean’s Eleven will have the director of 2012’s The Hunger Games, Gary Ross, giving Bullock and the cast their direction. The multi-talented Ross was the writer, director, and producer of Pleasantville, Seabiscuit, and the upcoming The Free State of Jones. His presence should give this Sandra Bullock movie cohesiveness.

Besides Sandra Bullock, the full cast is still an unknown. You can bet that Bullock will star alongside some huge Hollywood actresses, as Ghostbusters 3 will do with top female comedians. In addition to female casting, the movie also has Olivia Milch writing the screenplay.

The project may have been in gestation as early as fall 2014. Unfortunately, powerhouse producer Jerry Weintraub passed away in July of this year. That may have slowed production on the new Sandra Bullock movie, since Weintraub was likely advising Clooney on production duties. Weintraub produced Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen, among many other film and TV successes.

Clooney released a statement picked up by Variety that described the inspiration of Weintraub on the people he worked with.

“In the coming days there will be tributes about our friend Jerry Weintraub. We’ll laugh at his great stories, and applaud his accomplishments. And in the years to come the stories and accomplishments will get better with age, just as Jerry would have wanted it. But not today. Today our friend died. To his family and friends, Amal and I send our love. And to those who didn’t know him we send our deepest sympathy. You would have loved him.”

Though Clooney will mainly stay in his production role, it is rumored he will make an appearance in his Ocean’s trilogy persona, Danny Ocean. This Sandra Bullock movie should once again prove she is still acting on par with her Gravity role.
