Sammy Watkins: Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Calls Out ‘Loser’ Fans On Instagram

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins was injured during the team’s 34-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last week, and now fans are questioning him over his injuries since he has missed three of the last four games.

On Sunday, October 19, Watkins twisted his ankle as he turned in the end zone to come back for the ball. He fell onto the turf and had to be assisted over to the sideline. The ankle injury marked Watkins first game back after being out for two games due to a calf injury. Watkins did well in the first half of the game, being targeted five times and ending up with four catches for 48 yards and one touchdown, ESPN reports.

In a since-deleted Instagram post, Watkins called out the fans who were questioning his injuries during the 2015 season, referring to them as “losers,” and telling them to “continue working ya’ll little jobs.”

The complete comment read as follows.

“To all the people that have a problem with me being injured you guys go out there and play this sport it’s a 100% injury rate. I’m not first or last person that’s gone be injured difference from me and you guys y’all mad and I’m not get a life and go to work stop worrying about my job because I’m good on this end and forever will be losers most of you just wish to be in this position so continue working y’all little jobs for the rest of y’all lives since everyone once a response here go one have a blessed day.”

After posting, and later deleting the comment on Instagram, Watkins took to Facebook to address his original post, calling it “inappropriate.”

“Just want to thank all my fans for their support please don’t retract yesterday’s statement. My frustration is wanting to help the team and win for the city of Buffalo and for my teammates. As a player we need critics and also fans that’s apart of the game, majority of the negative comments were from other fans not the Bills fans. My comments were still inappropriate don’t matter what fan or who others cheer for we all represent the NFL shield Therefore ?#?letsgobuffalo?.”

Watkins was the 2014 fourth overall draft pick. He played all 16 games last season and currently has 11 catches for 147 yards and two touchdowns this season. Last month, Watkins made headlines when he told the team that he was upset over his lack of targets in the Bills’ offense.

He had his agent reach out to the team and say on his behalf, “You’re making me look bad, and you’re making yourself look bad. Why not make both of us look good?”

In other Buffalo Bills news, Rex Ryan announced on Thursday that his quarterback Tyrod Taylor will not be playing against the Jaguars in London on Sunday, according to NFL.com. Now, not only is Watkins out, Tyrod will not be playing, and Kyle Williams, Percy Harvin, Karlos Williams, and Seantrel Henderson will not suit up either.

Although he won’t be playing, Watkins still traveled with his team to London and watched practice from the sideline. Although he ditched the boot he wore on the plane ride over, Watkins’ ankle was still wrapped.

The Buffalo Bills will now rely on EJ Manuel in hopes of getting them above.500.

“I’m not really surprised,” Manuel said about starting. “It’s just building on what I did last week.”
