6.3 earthquake rattles Northern and Central Japan


An earthquake with a preliminary reading of 6.4 6.3 rattled homes in northern and central Japan Friday.

The earthquake struck at 12:30pm local time, and had an epicenter to the south of Hokkaido Island, and to the North East of Japan’s largest island Honshu. The depth of the earthquake is believed to have been 20.5 miles (33kms.)

No Tsunami warning has been issued, although local authorities say that there might be some sea level changes. There are no reports of damage or injuries at this stage.

Update: a revised estimate puts the earthquake at 6.3.
