Recalling Madonna, Justin Bieber recently did an interview entirely in Queen’s English.
This kid is always entertaining.
Over the weekend, Biebs did an interview with London’s Capital FM, affecting his best British accent for the entire duration of the sit-down. And you know? It’s actually not that bad.
Though we compared Bieber’s English-outing to Madonna’s infamously bad attempt, Biebs did it in good fun with complete self-awareness. He wasn’t trying to pass as British like Madonna and so far as we know, he’s not in the midst of an identity crisis/meltdown like Britney Spears when she confusingly attempted her own British accent years ago.
Bieber’s accent, performed backstage at the Summertime Ball 2012 with the British radio station, was actually an answer to a challenge by the interviewer to see if he could do an accent for the whole interview, reports E!.
“Do you think that my English accent’s quite good, my friend?” Bieber asks his interviewer, subsequently declaring that “if you walk in right now you might not even know that I’m not an Englishman.”
“Where did you learn this from? Who speaks like that?” asked Capital FM interviewer Will Cozens. “This is just how I talk,” Bieber replied.
Though he nearly flubbed it twice, once giggling and saying, “I’m just trying to concentrate on my accent,” and admitting, “I can’t keep doing this,” later on, Bieber managed to hold the accent for the entire four-minute interview.
I could say more, but you really just have to see it for yourself:
