Halle Berry And Husband Olivier Martinez End Two-Year Marriage

Halle Berry and husband Olivier Martinez split after two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.

Berry reportedly filed for divorce first under the pseudonym Hal Maria. Her real name is Halle Maria Berry. Martinez filed for his petition on Tuesday.

The former couple released a joint statement on Tuesday saying, “It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son.”

But the two did not divulge the reason for their divorce. “We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children’s privacy, as we go through this difficult period,” the statement read.

In the documents TMZ obtained, Berry used the fake name Mac Martin for Maceo and Oliver Martin for her estranged husband. Berry did not request for spousal support as she allegedly wants a “quick, non-contentious divorce,” an insider revealed. Both party agreed to sign a prenuptial agreement before their wedding. The former couple is seeking joint custody of their son Maceo Robert, aged 2.

However, Berry included in her paper some special conditions regarding the visitation, stating they will share custody, but Martinez should provide transportation for every visit and require permission to take Maceo out of California, People reported.

According to various sources, one of the reasons for their separation concerns their preferred locations. Martinez wanted them to live in Paris to which Berry agreed, but because of custody issues with her daughter’s father, she was not able to make the move. The actress shares a daughter with her former boyfriend Gabriel Aubry. A source told People that Martinez “never loved living in L.A.”

“He felt that if they lived in Europe, they would have a lot more privacy. Being here with Halle felt like they were living in a fish bowl,” a source told E!

Another reason was their distance as they were always apart because of their respective careers. At first, the two tried to make their relationship work despite the challenges but “the stress they were dealing with were way more than what a normal, newly married couple would have to handle,” explained the insider. “And while at times, the problems brought them closer together and made them determined to beat the odds and make it, inevitably, with time, these things can take their toll.”

Some speculate that Martinez’s temper might have affected their relationship. The French actor allegedly has a bad temper, which got him involved in a physical altercation with Aubry during the Thanksgiving holiday of 2012. Martinez was also sued for shoving an LAX employee with a baby’s car seat in January.

News of divorce has plagued the former couple since August when Berry was spotted without her expensive engagement ring. The actress told TMZ she lost the ring in 2014 while attending the Acapulco International Film Festival. She said she was not sure if the ring slipped from her finger or if someone took it when she placed it on a table. Another sign of imminent divorce was when she sat for an interview with E! News and she seemed to have forgotten her wedding anniversary with her husband.

Berry and Martinez tied the knot in July 2013 in an intimate ceremony at Chateau des Conde in France. They welcomed their son on October 5, 2013.

This is going to be the third divorce for Berry who married baseball star David Justice in 1993 and singer Eric Benet back in 2001. This is Martinez’s first divorce in which he is represented by divorce lawyer Laura Wasser.
