WWE news can be odd sometimes, and the latest story involving Shane McMahon proves that.
Last night, Batista was in London for a very big event in his life and career. It was a moment that most people had not envisioned when he initially left WWE for Hollywood. Batista surprisingly landed a big role as a villain in the new James Bond movie, and last night was the world premier of Spectre.
Batista being at the premier was big WWE news, but the bigger story was the other person that was there. Shane McMahon, one of more beloved WWE stars of all time, flew overseas to be with Batista at the world premier of Spectre. Batista even posted a photo of him and McMahon on Twitter.
On the surface, this does not appear to be big WWE news. Shane McMahon and Batista worked with one another, so it shouldn’t come as a shock that the two of them would be friends. Plenty of people keep in touch with one another after they leave WWE. For such a big event, friends oftentimes do reunite.
The reason why this is big WWE news is because of the relationship between Shane McMahon and his family. Nowadays, it seems like the McMahon family is a bit divided. One one side, you have Shane. On the other side is Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, and Linda McMahon. They seemed closer when Shane was still in WWE.
Linda McMahon is no longer the CEO of WWE. She gave up the reigns to Vince McMahon and generated some news headlines when she opted to go into politics. While Linda has no intention of returning to WWE on a full-time basis, she does show up whenever big events are happening. Linda even sometimes sits at ringside with her grandchildren.
The person that does not show up to WWE events is Shane McMahon. Whenever Wrestlemania rolls around each year, Shane makes WWE news by his absence. It is the biggest event in professional wrestling, so the belief is that it should be something that Shane attends. Shane should be there with the other McMahon family during one of their greatest accomplishments.
Some have suggested that this is not WWE news since Shane McMahon has other business ventures to tend to. Two years ago, McMahon freed up a good amount of time when he stepped down as the CEO of YOU on Demand. He remains on the board of directors, but that does not require a ton of his time. Shane has time to attend WWE events.
The fact that Shane McMahon chooses to avoid events such as Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, and others lends credence to the longstanding WWE rumors that he is at odds with his family. Many were under the impression that Shane would someday replace Vince McMahon as CEO. Now, it is looking like Stephanie McMahon will be running WWE someday.
The appearance at the Spectre world premiere was a genuine move to support his friend, Batista, but Shane McMahon inadvertently created WWE news by being there.
