WWE News: Roman Reigns Becomes Number One Contender For WWE World Title, Will Face Seth Rollins At ‘Survivor Series’

After his win over Bray Wyatt at Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, many wondered where Roman Reigns would go next. Some predicted that he would be challenging Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series next month.

Those who predicted that Reigns would be in the WWE Title match next month were correct, as Reigns won a number one contender’s fatal four way match on RAW, making him Seth Rollins’ next pay-per-view opponent.

RAW kicked off with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon congratulating Seth Rollins for defeating Kane on Sunday night, saying that Rollins is, without question, the greatest superstar of his generation, and that it’s a guarantee that he will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame after his wrestling career is over.

Triple H and Stephanie then told Rollins that he had completely wiped out every challenger that they have put in front of him, and, because of that, they couldn’t come up with a suitable challenger for his WWE World Heavyweight Title, which led to The Authority announcing a series of four singles matches that would take place later on the show, where the winners of those matches would participate in a fatal four way match to determine the number one contender for the WWE Title at Survivor Series.

The theme of the four singles matches was that the participants won their respective matches at Hell in a Cell. So, the matches were Roman Reigns vs. Kofi Kingston (Reigns won), Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro (Owens won), Alberto Del Rio vs. Neville (Del Rio won), and Dolph Ziggler vs. Big E (Dolph Ziggler won).

Before the Reigns vs. Owens vs. Del Rio vs. Ziggler match took place, Dean Ambrose was shown backstage encouraging Roman Reigns, and telling him that he’s been close to winning the WWE Title before, and that tonight was his moment to get back in the title picture and take what’s his.

Seth Rollins joined Michael Cole, JBL, and Byron Saxton on commentary for the match, and the story here was that Rollins didn’t want to face Reigns at Survivor Series, even though he said that he wouldn’t mind facing any of the four men in the match.

Every time Reigns would get on a roll, Rollins would start panicking on commentary, and Cole would point out that Rollins seemed afraid to face Reigns one-on-one. Of course, Rollins denied that he was afraid of Reigns.

The match ended with Owens super-kicking Reigns, which was followed by him shooting Reigns off the ropes, and throwing him up in the air for the pop-up powerbomb, which Reigns countered with a superman punch, followed by a spear, and then he pinned Owens to become the new number one contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

After the match, Reigns had a long stare down with Rollins by the announcer’s table, which ended with Reigns patting Rollins on the shoulder, and walking away.

There have been rumors for several weeks now that WWE has been wanting to put the title on Reigns, but many assumed that they would do it at WrestleMania, and they still could, but the fact that they’ve made Reigns look so strong over the last couple of weeks suggests that he’s winning the title next month.

Also, there have been rumors that WWE wants to do a Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns rematch at WrestleMania, and, as of right now, even though it’s ridiculously early for anyone to be making predictions or odds, Brock Lesnar is the favorite to win the 2016 Royal Rumble, according to Odds Checker.

It’ll be interesting to see what WWE has in store for Reigns over the next couple of weeks and months, and it’ll also be interesting to see how the fans react to him going forward, as they were completely behind him tonight.
