‘Dancing With The Stars’: Nick Carter And Bindi Irwin’s Halloween Teams Revealed

The Dancing with the Stars Halloween special airs next Monday, and it will include a team dance competition. Details about the teams have recently been revealed, and DWTS fans are going to have a difficult time deciding whether they want to root for Bindi Irwin’s ghost-busting bunch or Nick Carter’s creepy crew.

The Dancing with the Stars Halloween group dances are always entertaining, but Season 21’s freestyle routines have the potential to be two of the best that DWTS fans have ever seen. Both groups will be dancing to music from movies that are popular with Halloween lovers, and the two teams have talent that is almost equally matched.

The Halloween teams and their team names were revealed on the Dancing with the Stars Instagram page. Bindi Irwin is the captain of Team Who You Gonna Call, and PureDWTS reports that her group will be dancing to Ray Parker Jr.’s Ghostbusters theme song. She and partner Derek Hough will be joined by Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold, Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson, and Alexa PenaVega and Mark Ballas.

As BuddyTV points out, Bindi Irwin’s group has a great dynamic. Derek Hough is best friends with Mark Ballas, so they should work very well together. They’re going to be tough to beat when they bring their strengths to the table; Derek has his positive attitude and award-winning choreography, and Mark has a very creative mind. He always does an amazing job with pop culture-themed routines. Derek has never lost a team competition, and Alexa PenaVega is already used to working with him after Switch-Up week. Team Who You Gonna Call could benefit from including Dancing with the Star‘s high-scoring married couple, and viewers will enjoy finally getting to see Alexa and Carlos PenaVega dancing together on the show instead of competing against one another.

Team Nightmare’s team captain is Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, and his group will be dancing to the song “This Is Halloween” from The Nightmare Before Christmas. He and partner Sharna Burgess will be joined by Tamar Braxton and Val Chmerkovskiy, Hayes Grier and Emma Slater, Andy Grammer and Allison Holker.

Team Who You Gonna Call only has a very slight edge over their Team Nightmare when you add up the competitors’ average scores: 97.9 compared to 97.3. Both Dancing with The Stars teams also include multiple couples that have earned perfect scores, so the competition should be pretty fierce.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Derek Hough and Bethany Mota led Team Itsy Bitsy to victory during Season 19’s Halloween group dance competition. Their team did a spider-themed routine to Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora’s “Black Widow.”

The complete list of this year’s Halloween dances for the Dancing with the Stars couples hasn’t been revealed yet, but PureDWTS did manage to find out that Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold will dance the Viennese waltz to Beyonce’s “Haunted” remix from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. Tamar Braxton and Val Chmerkovskiy will perform the foxtrot to “People are Strange” by The Doors, and PureDerekHough reports that Bindi Irwin and her pro partner will dance the Argentine Tango to Gerard McMann’s “Cry Little Sister” from The Lost Boys soundtrack. This could mean that Derek will be getting in touch with his dark side to channel Kiefer Sutherland’s beloved vampire bad boy character, but will he rock the bleach blonde mullet?

The other Dancing with the Stars Halloween team captain is trying to keep his song under wraps for now, but perhaps it will require the Backstreet Boys singer to get all wrapped up like a mummy. Nick Carter and his Dancing with the Stars pro partner, Sharna Burgess, have already danced to “Everybody (Backstreets Back)” on the show, but that performance didn’t include a nod to the song’s monster movie mash-up music video and Nick’s emergence from a sarcophagus.

In her Hollywood Life blog, Sharna Burgess revealed that she can’t wait for Dancing with the Stars fans to see what she and Nick Carter have planned for Halloween.

“Next week is Halloween week, and Halloween is also Nick’s favorite holiday celebration…EVER! I can’t say much yet about our plans, but we are super excited about this one!!!”

The Dancing with the Stars Halloween special airs Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Will you be rooting for Team Who You Gonna Call or Team Nightmare?
