Rihanna and Beyoncé have been at the center of feud rumors for years, oftentimes leading fans to draw comparisons between the pop stars, but it appears one author is shedding some light on the Rihanna and Beyoncé drama in a new unauthorized biography titled, Becoming Beyoncé.
Author J. Randy Taraborrelli is making headlines for his scandalous tell-all biography about Beyoncé’s life, including everything from Beyoncé’s marriage to Jay Z, their daughter Blue Ivy, and that infamous elevator brawl that occurred at the 2014 Met Gala between Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, and husband Jay Z.
In the biography, Taraborrelli interviews several people within Beyoncé’s inner circle in order to draw conclusions about some of the biggest rumors surrounding Beyoncé’s life, including those nearly decade-long rumors about a secret relationship between Beyoncé’s husband and a much younger Rihanna.
While it’s no secret that Jay Z has served as Rihanna’s mentor since Rihanna emerged on the music scene with her 2005 hit, “Pon De Replay,” but did Rihanna and Jay Z have a romantic relationship while the rap mogul was still in the early stages of dating Beyoncé?
According to Taraborrelli’s book, Jay Z has never been unfaithful to Beyoncé during their 15 years of being a couple, but that doesn’t mean Beyoncé took too kindly the news of Jay’s rumored relationship with Rihanna making headlines in the early 2000s.
The author claims that while those reports suggesting Rihanna and Jay Z were romantically involved after Jay signed Rihanna as an artist are “total fiction” and were sparked by a publicist connected to Jay and Rihanna to help “boost [Rihanna’s career],” the rumors did cause some major drama in Beyoncé and Jay Z’s relationship, Entertainment Tonight reports.
“Beyoncé didn’t know what to make of this, and it actually ended up breaking them up for a time. They spent maybe a year apart from each other because Beyoncé just wasn’t sure of what to make of the situation with Rihanna.”
Taraborelli goes on to insist that while Rihanna and Beyoncé are friends, there are still residual feelings of uncertainty regarding Rihanna’s professional relationship with Jay Z. In fact, the author alleges that it was Rihanna who caused Solange Knowles to attack Jay Z in the elevator during the 2014 Met Gala.
Beyoncé, Jay Z, and Solange made headlines just days after the 2014 Met Gala after video surveillance from the elevator at the event showed Solange brutally attacking Jay Z while Beyoncé seemed unbothered by the duo’s confrontation.
While the brawl sparked rumors of an impending divorce for the usually happy Beyoncé and Jay Z, Taraborrelli claims that the entire incident stemmed from Jay Z’s desire to attend Rihanna’s after-party for the Met Gala despite Beyoncé having told him that she didn’t want Jay Z to go.
“It was a whispered married couple’s argument that would have gone by completely unnoticed had not Solange overheard it,” the author admits, “Solange has always been Beyoncé’s biggest protector.”
Despite both Beyoncé and Rihanna having denied rumors of any bad blood between them, the duo’s tense relationship continues to make headlines.
In March, rumors surfaced suggesting that Beyoncé and Rihanna were not on speaking terms after the duo posed together for a series of “awkward” photos during the launch of Jay Z’s music streaming service, Tidal.
While sources close to Rihanna instantly shot down the rumors, via Gossip Cop, the rumors further escalated in July after Rihanna dropped her newest single, “B**** Better Have My Money,” prompting some to draw conclusions between the song’s heated message and Rihanna and Bey’s longtime alleged feud.
While it was later determined that “BBHMM” was really about Rihanna’s former accountant and had nothing to do with her “tense” relationship with Beyoncé, fans continue to speculate regarding the true nature of Beyoncé’s feelings towards Rihanna given the decade-long rumors.
