‘Suicide Squad’ Stars Corina Calderon And Margot Robbie Call Jared Leto’s Joker ‘Mesmerizing’ And ‘Brilliant’

If there’s one thing fans are looking forward to in Suicide Squad, it’s seeing Jared Leto’s take on the iconic villain, The Joker. While fans will have to wait until next year to watch Leto’s performance on the big screen, his fellow co-stars Corina Calderon and Margot Robbie recently sat down and discussed just how impressed they were with Leto’s portrayal of Batman’s most famous nemesis.

According to ComicBook.com, Calderon was absolutely fascinated with Leto’s performance. In fact, the actress stated that not only was she mesmerized with Leto’s performance, but getting to watch his skills and approach as an actor actually made her own part easier.

“Before we shot my scenes, I was on set with David Ayer, the director, and got to watch [the other actors] do their scenes before my scenes,” Calderon explained in the interview. “Watching him [Leto] really gave me this whole new freedom as an actress.”

Just how did watching Leto make her feel? Well, as Calderon went on to add, watching him freed her up and gave her a new sense of confidence. “I feel brave, I feel ballsy watching him go. It was an amazing lesson.”

Calderon is set to play a character named Grace in the coming movie. Although she was willing to share a bit of insight into Leto’s performance, Calderon kept fairly mum about her own role. In fact, the actress stated that she “honestly can’t reveal much of [her] character.”

Although we still don’t know much about her character’s part in the film, it will be interesting to see how she interacts with The Joker, if they cross paths in the movie at all.

At the same time, Calderon also explained how Leto’s performance as the Joker was very impressive, which should excite fans as they count down the days until the premiere of the film.

“Jared Leto as the Joker, he is brilliant… I was amazed, just fascinated, mesmerized watching him… Even when he was going to get his mic checked in between scenes.”

Meanwhile, Calderon wasn’t the only cast member who was delighted with Leto’s performance. In fact, Margot Robbie, who is playing Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, also shared a little on her interactions with Leto.

According to Classical Lite, Robbie said that Leto’s take on the villain was “pretty impressive.” While this is in line with what everyone has bee saying about Leto, it was Robbie’s other comments that really shed some light on how involved Leto was with his character.

With that in mind, Robbie added that Leto got so far into the character that it was a little frightening to see him out of makeup. In fact, she related a story about how she wasn’t comfortable seeing Leto out of makeup, and that level of uncomfortableness only lessened when he was fully in character.

“I saw him out of makeup once and I was actually petrified of him. I was too scared to go up and didn’t know who that person was… And when he got back into his makeup I was far more comfortable.”

These comments are impressive in their own right, especially considering that Robbie’s character in the movie is just as crazy and messed up as The Joker. After all, the two characters are former sidekicks/lovers, and if Robbie was frightened to see Leto out of character, then fans are surely in for a great performance once Suicide Squad hits the big screens on August 5, 2016.
