Divorce Called Off! Khloe Stands By Lamar

The ex-Laker had been in the middle of a divorce with his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, for months. Prior to Odom’s hospitalization, many believed the pair’s divorce had been finalized. It has not. Currently, it’s lacking a judge’s signature, and sources say that the divorce judge won’t get the opportunity to put pen to paper.

Now that Lamar Odom is recovering at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in California, the scoop is that his estranged wife has decided that reconciliation is the best way to go. NBC News reports that the contentious couple has decided to call off their divorce in the wake of recent events. While Odom is facing an uncertain medical future that might even include a kidney transplant, it looks like his personal life is getting a little more stable.

It is becoming more and more apparent that Khloe Kardasian has decided that her life (and Lamar’s) will be better if their divorce is called off. Many personal and legal loose ends plagued the estranged couple during the early days of Lamar’s hospitalization. Most people believed that the couple’s divorce had already been finalized prior to Odom’s alleged overdose. Following his hospitalization, it was made highly public that the pair wasn’t divorced, merely estranged. Khloe was named Lamar’s legal next-of-kin and reportedly responsible for his life-or-death medical decisions.

So Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom are still technically married due to not submitting their paperwork, which means Khloe is next of kin.

Many fans, followers, and even haters came out of the woodwork to comment on Khloe and Lamar’s divorce (or lack thereof) as he languished in a medically-induced coma for days. Some went so far as to insinuate that his divorce may have led to or prevented his condition in the first place.

Throughout the divorce and medical situation, Khloe kept her class and her cool. She and her family kept quiet; they asked Dennis Hof and the Love Ranch to do the same. Despite the lack of divorce and Khloe’s status as Lamar’s legal wife, Hof and his employees refused to comply with her request. They chose to tell Khloe and her family to “go to hell.” Because Khloe’s divorce had not been finalized, she had some legal and social pull; the family’s reps responded to the Hof dis with accusations of theft.

Now that the Kardashian/Odom divorce has officially been called off, the future is in even more limbo than when Lamar was found unconscious and unresponsive. Khloe remains his next-of-kin, presumably, and therefore his legal decision-maker. This is particularly important when you consider the extent of Lamar’s injuries and the requirements for his recovery. Since the couple called off their divorce, Khloe may be dealing with issues relating to everything from rehab to an organ transplant. There have even been rumors that Lamar suffered from brain damage as a result of his ordeal. Because their divorce is called off, this could leave Khloe in control of his finances as well.

When you hear of a divorce being called off, often your first response is one of congratulations for the couple involved. In this case, though, there are many circumstances that complicate the situation. The lack of divorce between Khloe and Lamar in the midst of this compromising situation is less than romantic.

Fortunately for Lamar, Khloe has an intimate knowledge of brain injuries herself. She suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident years ago. Perhaps it rendered her more empathetic, in the wake of Lamar’s injury and their called of divorce, we can hope so.

Celebrities, especially reality couples, seldom garner real public sympathy. That being said, in the aftermath of all that’s happened, this is one divorce we’re glad was called off.
