Mike Ditka Farted On-Air? Football Great Denies Sound Came From Him, Fans Seemingly Not Buying It

Though many football fans are talking about how the season is going so far and which teams are seemingly contenders for the playoffs later this fall, many are buzzing about the video where it seems Mike Ditka farted on the air during Monday Night Countdown on ESPN. Ditka is denying it, but not everybody is believing what he’s dishing out.

The incident in question happened as Cris Carter was making his picks during Monday’s show. Deadline shared the video where Carter was joking about his pick for the Giants and Eagles game when it would seem that Mike Ditka farted. Is that really what happened, though? Many would say that based on Carter’s reaction in the short clip, it would certainly seem so.

That said, the football great says that he was not responsible for what was heard in the clip. Ditka shared via the Chicago Sun-Times that he is not guilty of causing any such disturbance.

Ditka says, “It wasn’t me. Believe me, I’m to the point in my life where it doesn’t matter. One day I’ll be happy if I can leave a fart. Right now, it wasn’t me. I don’t care what they think. They can think anything they want.”

This story certainly has some legs, though, as both Ditka and Carter hit up The Dan Le Batard Show via ESPN to discuss the incident. There seems to be a bit of scrambling to explain this supposed Mike Ditka fart away, but football fans do not seem to exactly be buying it.

It would seem that the Monday Night Countdown guys are going with the idea that Chris Berman made the noise with his lips, not that Ditka made the sound in the way most are guessing. However, a poll conducted after the Carter and Ditka chat seems to lean toward fans not believing this one.

Ditka may be a football legend, but that does not mean he has not had some interesting moments on television in his years as a commentator. As For the Win detailed in 2013, Mike had a moment where he also seemed to fall asleep in the middle of a Sunday NFL Countdown broadcast. In that instance, Keyshawn Johnson shook Ditka back awake as the other guys watched in a bit of disbelief.

Granted, Ditka is now 76-years-old, and he has always been a guy to do what he wants when he wants, for the most part. He likely is not going to spend too much time worrying about defending himself if indeed it’s ultimately truth that Mike Ditka farted on the air during the broadcast. Football fans are hardly outraged by the incident, though the denials are adding a bit of humor to an already comical incident.

Obviously, down the road, Ditka’s legacy will revolve around his notable years coaching the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears. His success as a player on the field earned him a spot in the Hall of Fame, and he earned plenty of accolades throughout his years as a player and coach.

Ditka has been working on the commentary side of the sport for years now. Despite a few hiccups here and there with falling asleep or now this latest supposed incident, he’s got a solid gig in front of the camera surely for as long as he wants it. The football great may be defending himself a bit more than some would say is worth the bother, in this case, but the buzz will certainly die down fairly soon.

Do you think that Mike Ditka farted during Monday Night Countdown? Was Cris Carter’s face after the sound a telltale sign, or could it have been a sound made by Chris Berman instead?
