Is ‘Bad Blood’ Really About Katy Perry? Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift Weigh In

Fans have been wanting to know if “Bad Blood” is really about Katy Perry. The rumors started last year during Taylor Swift’s interview with Rolling Stone magazine, when she covered the issue’s September 2015 cover.

Now both Taylor Swift and her BFF Selena Gomez have addressed the “Bad Blood” rumors. Well, sort of. Selena Gomez made an appearance as Swift’s villain in the popular video, so it would only make sense that she would get asked if the song is really about Swift’s alleged arch enemy, Katy Perry.

Don’t get too excited. Gomez would not confirm nor deny the song’s inspiration during her interview with Bravo host Andy Cohen on Sunday night’s Watch What Happens Live (October 18). Of course, that will add fuel to the fire about the Taylor Swift and Katy Perry feuding rumors. During a game called “Plead the Fifth,” Gomez answered some tough questions about Nick Jonas’ sexuality, and her celebrity crush (Chris Evans).

When asked whether or not “Bad Blood” was about Katy Perry, Gomez pleaded the fifth while trying to keep a straight face. But of course, that was difficult since Gomez’s beautiful smile shown through. It’s clear that Gomez didn’t want to upset Swift by saying that the song could be about Katy Perry.

Taylor Swift kind of, sort of addressed the “Bad Blood” rumors in her latest interview with GQ magazine. In her cover story, Swift also neither denied nor confirmed that Perry was the subject of her venomous song. The “Wildest Dreams” singer said that she didn’t want people to assume that it was just another breakup song.

“You’re in a Rolling Stone interview, and the writer says, ‘Who is that song about? That sounds like a really intense moment from your life.’ And you sit there, and you know you’re on good terms with your ex-boyfriend, and you don’t want him – or his family – to think you’re firing shots at him. So you say, ‘That was about losing a friend.'”

Swift went on to claim that the song “was not a song about heartbreak. It was about the loss of friendship.”

If she didn’t want the rumors to swirl in the first place, she just should have said the song isn’t about Katy Perry and moved on. But instead she keeps the rumors going by neither confirming nor denying it, keeping her fans and the general public guessing.

Swift also said that she didn’t include any specific details in the “Bad Blood” song or during any interviews. She must have forgot what she said during her 2014 Rolling Stone interview.

“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'”

During the interview, Swift claimed that the alleged popstar in question practically sabotaged her Red World Tour. Both of Swift’s and Perry’s fans did some deep digging to find out that their world tours were scheduled around the same time. There was also an interview about one Perry’s backup dancers leaving Swift’s Red World Tour for the California Dreams World Tour.

Days after Swift’s Rolling Stone interview was released, Perry shared this now iconic message on Twitter.

Let’s not forget the vicious tweet that Katy Perry passively sent Taylor Swift in the middle of her Twitter beef with Nicki Minaj!

And it’s funny that Swift has invited almost every female popstar alive to do guest appearances during her shows on her 1989 World Tour, except for Katy Perry.

It’s obvious that Gomez doesn’t want to betray her best friend by saying that “Bad Blood” is really about the bubbly and bouncy brunette pop tart. But if Swift keeps her fans guessing, then the rumors will just keep on going. It’s made some of the media confused, thinking that both Swift and Gomez denied that “Bad Blood” is about Katy Perry.
