Gwen Stefani: On Blake Shelton Romance, Heartbreaking Single, And Scraping Entire Album

After superstar Gwen Stefani began working with Blake Shelton on the most recent season of The Voice, the 46-year-old began hearing claims and reports that she and the 39-year-old, newly single country star had begun a romance. Stefani recently jokingly cleared the air by not even given an ounce of energy towards slamming the perpetuated rumor.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the chic rocker jokingly posed a question alluding to the romance rumor between her and Shelton.

“Have you read the news?”

Stefani clearly isn’t giving the rumor any sort of life, and casually laughs off the insinuation that the two are an item. Stefani then expands about the vibe on the show between herself, Shelton — whom she calls “the cowboy” — and other panel members.

“It seems like the cowboy is really happy on the show. We’re all having so much fun on that show. Everybody is in such a good place.”

Shelton also used humor via Twitter to respond to the reports that he and Stefani are an item.

“The stuff I read about myself blows my mind. Shouldn’t I get to do all these things since I’m already accused of them? I literally just got back from FAR northern Quebec chasing caribou and now read about all the crazy stuff I’ve been doing lately?!! #WTF”

The No Doubt frontwoman also shared about how music has been therapeutic throughout the difficulties surrounding her split from husband Gavin Rossdale, earlier this year. Being a member of The Voice’s panel and visiting the recording studio regularly has allowed Stefani to take her mind off the challenges and put the pain felt into her songs on her latest album. Her new single, which was just released, captures the struggle and heartache that Gwen has endured while separating from her husband of more than a decade. Stefani shares as to how music has helped her through.

“The biggest gift has been to be able to take some tragedy and write a song about it and share that. The rewards that I’ve gotten through that is just unbelievable.”

The singer and fashionista admits that her latest album took a mere 8 weeks to write, and her surprise MasterCard Priceless performance in New York City, that she gave on Saturday, marks her first since February this year.

Although the album, which is soon to drop, was put together in 8 weeks time, an effort that came before it and involved a number of collaborations was entirely scrapped by the artist. Stefani recently shared with Entertainment Weekly that she had fully intended to put out an album earlier this year, just because she felt new music was expected. It, however, did not feel right to the star and she had little inspiration, so she scrapped the entire thing. However, with all that came after that point, involving her tumultuous break up from Gavin, Gwen finally found the inspiration she needed to go full tilt and put together a compilation that she feels is just right. EW shares the star’s words on the subject.

“It didn’t feel right. I didn’t feel fulfilled. That record with Benny was done that way because I had just given birth and had just started on The Voice and felt like I should do something in music, but what was I going to do? There wasn’t enough time. So I tried to make a record where I was just kind of involved — which is how a lot of people do it, but it didn’t work for me.”

The songstress’ latest album includes the newly-released heartbreaking single, “Used To Love You,” and gives a window into the pain that Gwen has felt during her break up from Rossdale.

“I thought I was the best thing about you… I guess nobody taught you how to love.”

Gwen’s performance of the song in New York on Saturday now has fans antsy to finally have a listen to her highly-anticipated album that is soon to be released. View Stefani’s performance below.
