One Direction’s ‘Perfect’ Not Only Sounds Like ‘Style’ But Also Complements Another Taylor Swift Song?

Since the release of One Direction’s “Perfect,” many have noticed its uncanny similarity with Taylor Swift’s “Style.” The comparison was heightened when a fan shared a new mash-up of the two songs.

“Style” is believed to have been written as an ode for Taylor’s whirlwind romance with Harry. The couple dated from late 2012 to early 2013. When asked by pal Ben Winston how he feels about being deemed as the inspiration behind several tracks on Taylor’s album 1989, the British crooner said he considers himself “really lucky.”

“She’s really good, so they’re good songs. I’m really lucky in that sense. We write from personal experience, and I think everyone does, so it would be hypocritical of us to be like, ‘Oh you can’t write about us.’ “

Is he returning the favor through One Direction’s “Perfect?” Several fans pointed out that the track’s lines pertain to “Haylor.”

“But if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms / And if you like having secret little rendezvous / If you like to do the things you know that we shouldn’t do / Baby, I’m perfect / Baby, I’m perfect for you.”

“And if you like midnight driving with the windows down / And if you like going places we can’t even pronounce / If you like to do whatever you’ve been dreaming about / Baby, you’re perfect.”

“And if you like cameras flashing every time we go out / Oh, yeah / And if you’re looking for someone to write your breakup songs about / Baby, I’m perfect / Baby, we’re perfect.”

Apart from seemingly taking its chorus cues from “Style,” the lines from One Direction’s “Perfect” about the secret rendezvous and going to places with difficult to pronounce names appear to complement another Taylor track — “I Know Places.”

In the song, Taylor compares a couple to a pair of foxes surrounded by hunters who are always trying to track down the lovers. As the song’s title suggests, Taylor sings that she knows places where the lovers cannot be found. At the end of the song, the songstress seems to have described the 1D member with the line, “In the dead of night, your eyes so green.”

One Direction’s camp hasn’t addressed the issues yet, but in a recent interview with Yahoo Celebrity, Louis Tomlinson claimed that “Perfect” was written for a lothario and that it was an “ironic love song.”

“This song is just kind of about saying you’re not the knight in shining armour, your typical Romeo kinda guy, and yeah – just not taking it so seriously. It’s more about the moment.”

The 23-year-old wrote “Perfect” with Harry, which led to another speculation that Larry Stylinson might have inspired the single. Rumors about Louis and Harry’s romance have been swirling since the band rose to fame. However, in an interview with Attitude magazine, Liam Payne previously dismissed the allegations that his band mates are embroiled in a secret affair.

“It’s just when you know the ins and outs of what is going on with people it’s just annoying when it’s so stupid. It becomes like a conspiracy or like a cult, the people who watch them and think that every move they make is a gesture towards them being together, and I know it’s not true and it makes me mad.”

Meanwhile, the boys’ upcoming album, Made in the A.M., will be released on November 13. The music video for “Perfect” will come out next week. The boys have recently treated Directioners with images from the shoot. The “Perfect” video was shot at the InterContinental Hotel in New York’s Times Square, and some of the images showed the boys singing on a roof as well as Harry balancing on a window sill.
