Ryse Still In The Works, Microsoft Says

At Microsoft’s E3 2010 press conference, the company revealed that Crytek is working on a Kinect-focused title dubbed Ryse. Microsoft didn’t have a whole lot to say about the game, and all we’ve seen of it since was a concept video shown during last year’s press conference.

This year, however, Ryse was a complete no-show at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, and it isn’t anywhere to be found on the show floor either. The reason for this, Microsoft Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer told Joystiq, is that the game simply isn’t ready to be shown.

“We’re just not at a point right now to show the game, and instead of … we’re still working with Crytek, we’re still extremely committed to the relationship, but we want to make sure that we’re putting our best foot forward every time we show the game,” Spencer told the site. “You’ll see more about that game, no doubt.”

When asked if Ryse would still be focused on Microsoft’s Kinect peripheral, Spencer said, “Kinect will be part of the game, absolutely.” Judging by that answer, it sounds like Microsoft and Crytek may be considering some sort of controller option as well.

As someone who never has been all that interested in motion controls, I would be more interested in Ryse if Kinect was optional, and not required. What about you? Are you still into that whole motion control gaming thing?
