Iggy Azalea Has No Interest In Rita Ora’s ‘Lady Marmalade’ Remake

Iggy Azalea has no interest in Rita Ora’s idea of doing another “Lady Marmalade” remake.

Rita Ora suggested to The Sun (via E! News) that it would be fun to do a remake of Patti Labelle’s 1975 hit song “Lady Marmalade.” She also had some interesting choices for the remake.

“I’m trying to round up the troops. I think it would be me, Miley, Charli XCX – she’d be fun – and Iggy.”

Keep in mind that a remake of “Lady Marmalade” has been done a few times before. Back in 1998, the girl group All Saints released a cover of the song, which hit to the top of the charts in the U.K.

The song featured Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and Pink, and with an introduction by Missy Elliott. The hit song was also on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack that very year. The ladies even performed the song at the MTV Video Music Awards and the Grammy Awards, even with the diva rumors that circulated around them.

But it looks like Iggy Azalea doesn’t want to be near this remake of a remake. She took to Twitter to say that she’s not a fan of Rita Ora’s idea.

Azalea isn’t backing down either. One of her fans warned her that she was going to end up on a celebrity news blog, but she doesn’t seem to mind.

Fans also offered their own input on who would they like to sing on the “Lady Marmalade” track. Some suggestions include Beyonce, Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj were also throw into the mix. Both artists already worked together on the female empowerment anthem “Bang Bang” with Jessie J.

It’s a little odd that Iggy would reject Rita Ora’s idea. It just sounds like the British pop star was having some fun and suggesting who she would work with, if the opportunity ever arose. It wasn’t something that should be taken seriously, especially since nothing has been confirmed.

Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora have collaborated on a song before. The pop star was featured on the Australian rapper’s hit song “Black Widow.” They even worked on a Kill Bill style video together. Back in 2014, Ora told Fuse TV host Esteban Serrano that they had to take martial arts classes since they had to do most of their own stunts.

“It was us learning how to hold a sword, and it was so difficult. It’s like a dance choreography—you’ve got to know when the guy’s about to hit you, so you don’t get knocked out. We put a lot of time into this video; we wanted it to be right. We didn’t want to be two bada**es that weren’t really bada**es.”

Azalea even agreed that they were a perfect match for the song and the video. She told MTV News that she’s been itching to work with the “Poison” singer for some time now.

“I think we’ve been wanting to collaborate for awhile. We had a few hits and misses, we had a few tries and it was never right. And then Katy sent me ‘Black Widow,’ She had spoken about it for awhile and she said that she wanted to get another female on it and I said you should put Rita on it because she can actually sing and that is rare in our day and it seemed like the obvious choice.”

Rita was obviously happy to be on Iggy’s new song. She called it the ideal anthem for hitting back at their exes. She even praised Iggy for her strength and for being a fellow blonde.

“It’s an amazing thing where two girls click, and then we just…mess him up,” Ora said when she explained the fight scenes. She also said that she enjoyed working with Azalea on the set of the video.

Iggy and Rita went on to perform “Black Widow” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. What are your thoughts on the two working together again on a “Lady Marmalade” remake? Do you agree with Rita or Iggy? Share your thoughts below in the comments section.
