Watch Week Five of NFL Monday Night Football live online as the Pittsburgh Steelers take their 2-2 record across the country to San Diego, where they’ll face the Chargers, who also come in at 2-2. With both teams playing divisions currently led by undefeated 5-0 teams, coming out of Qualcomm Stadium with a “W” is crucial for both the Steelers and the Chargers, in a game that could come down to an unlikely matchup of quarterbacks.
The Steelers play in the AFC North, where they must contend with the unbeaten Cincinnati Bengals who appear to have upped their game this season, while the Chargers trail the 5-0 Denver Broncos who have won with defense even as quarterback Peyton Manning has struggled.
The Steelers star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger remains sidelined with a knee injury, and that leaves journeyman Michael Vick to try to lead the Steelers to a 3-2 record. At age 35, Vick has never lived up the expectations set when the Atlanta Falcons picked him first overall in the 2001 draft, and missing two full seasons with a prison sentence for animal cruelty coming out of Vick’s involvement in a dog fighting ring has made him a controversial figure as well.
So far, Vick has subbed for Roethlisberger in one full game and one quarter of another. In that span, the best that can be said is that he has not hurt the Steelers, hitting on 75 percent of his passes. He has also managed to avoid any turnovers, though that stat is a bit misleading because Vick has fumbled the ball twice already — only to see his teammates recover.
The Steelers lost to the Baltimore Ravens in overtime, 23-20 in a Thursday night game on October 1, Vick’s only start so far for Pittsburgh, whose kicker Josh Scobee missed on two field goals, costing Vick and his team a victory.
