The Reckoning: Beverly Lewis’ Amish Story Airs On Hallmark Mysteries & Movies Tonight Starring Katie Leclerc, Jacob Blair

The Reckoning is a dramatic new film that is set to premiere tonight on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel. Hallmark Movies & Mysteries remains dedicated to providing ambitious programming geared toward the inspirational. Tonight’s The Reckoning is a continuation of the Amish saga by Beverly Lewis. It stars Katie Leclerc as Katie and Jacob Blair as Daniel.

The Reckoning Synopsis

When an Amish woman named Katie becomes the mistress of Mayfield Manor, an estate that she has inherited from her birth mother, she has to make a choice between her old life in the Amish community and her new life in a new world. Ultimately, she makes the decision to move away and take on her new responsibilities at the manor with Justin Wirth directing the new foundation. But leaving the Amish community has its drawbacks. Now, no one in the church can talk to her or communicate with her in any way. This shunning makes her cling to her new life and the new man in her life. The situation becomes more complicated when her long lost love from back home comes looking for her in order to declare his undying love. Torn between two lives and two loves, she has to decide if she will she go back to the Amish church and regain the favor of her family and friends. or if she will come to a reckoning of who she is and who she was meant to be—which could end up taking her away from the life she has always known.

The Reckoning is a powerful film that explores the lives of those who are raised in the Amish community, but who sometimes struggle with the desire to know what else the world can offer them. This sort of independent thinking has caused much controversy in the Amish church among those who believe that their way of life is the only true way of life. There is at least one documentary series that follows former Amish members who have broken away from the lifestyle to explore what they perceive is a normal way of life.

Beverly Lewis’ Amish books have been bringing heartwarming pleasure to her readers for years. In addition to The Reckoning, some of her other movies come to the small screen, such as The Shunning and The Confession. According to USA Today, Lewis has written more than 70 books. Raised in Pennsylvania, the home of one of the largest Amish communities in America, the best-selling author has been writing stories since she was 9-years-old. Here is what she says on her own website about her stories.

“My mother saved everything I wrote, even the stories I dreamed up during my grade school years. One such tale is semi-autobiographical, about a young girl whose parents can no longer afford to give her piano lessons. The manuscript was 77 pages long and titled ‘She Shall Have Music,’ penned under the shade of a lone willow tree. ‘Reading, writing, and playing piano have been top three on my list of favorite things.'”

Actor Jason Blair is originally from Canada and starred in his first role in 2007’s Battlestar Galactica: Razor. He has also enjoyed roles in Fear Island and The A-Team. Katie Leclerc is a Colorado native who is most known for her role in The Big Bang Theory. Leclerc, who has been acting since the age of 19, can also been seen in Switched At Birth.
