The Spice Girls And The Backstreet Boys Could Be Going On Tour: But Will Victoria Beckham Be There?

The Spice Girls and The Backstreet Boys could be going on tour? That’s a lot of 90s nostalgia packed onto one concert billing, but one Backstreet Boy is saying that it could really happen.

“The Spice Girls tour has been this idea bouncing around for the past year and a half, and it’s something we’re still talking about,” Backstreet Boys member A.J. McLean said to Rolling Stone Magazine.

But A.J. didn’t get into too many details and instead went on to talk about the plans that The Backstreet Boys have for making new music.

“But we’re going back in on the 12th to dust off the cobwebs. We’re working with a new producer, Jay Cash, who wrote ‘Sugar’ for Maroon 5,” A.J. said. “This is just the beginning phase, but we’re hoping to have the album done before our cruise in May.”

If you didn’t already know, the Backstreet Boys cruise is an event that the band mates host for their fans to relive their heyday. The cruise mainly tours the Mediterranean and is a highlight within the fandom that still supports the boys. According to their website, the next Backstreet Boys cruise date will be in May, 2016. The last time they toured on land was in 2014, for the In a World Like This, also known as the 20th Anniversary tour.

The Spice Girls on the other hand have been dropping hints that they may be doing a reunion tour for their own 20th anniversary. But they certainly haven’t mentioned a Spice Girl and Backstreet Boys joint ticket.

“There’s nothing to really spill because nothing has been announced, nothing’s official,” Mel Brown, aka Scary Spice, said last month on The Meredith Vieira Show, Us Weekly reports.

“I mean, yes, we are in talks because it’s our 20th anniversary. And I want something to happen. I’m forcing them a little bit, but yeah. I’ve been saying it for five years, ‘We are reuniting. We are, aren’t we?'”

But there were rumors that a certain band member wasn’t too excited about a Spice Girls reunion tour. That member is Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice.

According to Contact Music, Victoria Beckham is not involved in any type of talks surrounding a Spice Girls reunion.

“Victoria has said she doesn’t want to perform again, which is understandable,” Melanie Chisolm, aka Mel C, aka Scary Spice, told Britain’s The Sun newspaper. “She fully supports the four of us because we might want to have another go. It’s very amicable.”

Contact Music reports that Victoria Beckham has said that she did not want to perform after the Spice Girls took the stage at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Victoria Beckham has developed a very high-profile career as a fashion designer.

Beckham launched her label in 2008 and a diffusion line in 2011. In 2011, her brand The Victoria Beckham fashion brand was named designer label of the year in the U.K. Over the years, she has amassed a star-studded celebrity client list that includes Beyonce, Jada Pinkett Smith, Rachel Weisz, Miranda Kerr, and Ann Hathaway to name a few.

Victoria Beckham has admitted in the past that she’s gone through lots of struggles to establish a career in the fashion industry. In the early days, “Posh Spice” admitted that she struggled to be taken seriously in an interview with The Business of Fashion Magazine.

“For a long time there, I was a bit of a laughing stock. And while everybody was busy laughing, what was I doing? I was laying the foundation to what I have in place now,” Beckham said in the interview.

According to the article, Victoria Beckham’s business generated £30 million in sales (about $50 million USD) in 2013. This represents a 91 percent increase from 2012.

This is probably why Victoria Beckham isn’t too thrilled about a Spice Girl’s reunion tour, even if the Backstreet Boys are there too.
