John Goodman Unrecognizable After Dramatic Weight Loss, Actor Has Lost Substantial Amount

John Goodman is regarded as not only one of the best character actors working in Hollywood today, but as one of the cuddliest and huskiest, too. All of which is a round about way of saying that he was fat.

But, that’s not the case anymore, because John Goodman looked unrecognizable at the premiere for Trumbo at the London Film Festival on Thursday night, showing the world that he’d lost a substantial amount of weight.

The svelte-looking actor walked down the red-carpet sporting a grey beard while wearing an elegant suit. He also showed off a remarkably thinner frame, too. Don’t believe us? Then check out the stunning images of the actor below.

John Goodman looked remarkably healthier to previous times that he’s strolled down the red carpet. He’s previously admitted that he once weighed in at a rather heavy 400 pounds.

Just as recently as last November, when John Goodman attended the premiere of Monuments Men, the actor was clearly packing on a few extra pounds in comparison to his look now. See if you can spot the difference.

In fact, because of his performances in films and shows like Raising Arizona, Barton Fink, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Roseanne, The Flinstones, Treme, and King Ralph, Goodman has become recognizable, in part, because of his weight.

Even the actor himself has previously admitted that he’s gone to great lengths to eat healthier and stay as fit as possible. Unfortunately, though, he usually manages to squeeze extra weight back on.

It’s clear to see that this time he’s been able to keep it off though — for the time being at least — and he looks all the better for it.

Back in 2010, 63-year-old Goodman spoke candidly about the fears that he has for his health, and the struggles that he has gone through trying to keep his weight down.

During an appearance on David Letterman’s Late Show, via the Mirror, he revealed, “I’d lose 60 pounds every spring, and then I got too fond of the barley corn and I’d just start missing it too much. And then it would just screw everything up. I’d gain it all back and then some every year.”

Goodman went on to explain how this was an issue he would be battling for the rest of his life, and that he was aware of his limitations. Goodman continued, “I’m not going to look like Paris Hilton or anything like that. It’s going to be an ongoing process for the rest of my life.”

Goodman had to have knee surgery back in 2014 due to weight gain. Following the surgery, he vowed to get in better shape, and he’s reportedly been doing boxing, cardio, and working on an elliptical machine.

Another issue that John Goodman found expanded his waist line was his dependence on alcohol. He admitted that he used to get so nervous before performing in a play that he’d have to drink heavily just to calm himself.

The actor has been sober since 2007. Since making the decision to quit booze, Goodman has attended alcoholics anonymous every morning.

In August 2010, Goodman revealed that he had been exercising, while also trying to document and watch everything that he consumed in an attempt to stay thin. The regimen had resulted in him losing 100 pounds. It seems to be a method that he’s used to his benefit once again.
