E3 2012: Microsoft Shows First Halo 4 Campaign Footage

To kick off its E3 2012 press conference, Microsoft showed off one of its most, if not the most hotly anticipated titles of the year: 343 Industries’ Halo 4.

Microsoft’s press conference kicked off with a live action trailer for Halo 4, which neatly transitioned straight into our first glimpse at Halo 4‘s singleplayer campaign.

The in-game Halo 4 footage starts where the live action trailer left off, with the UNSC Infinity crash landing on an unknown planet that series protagonist Master Chief and his A.I. companion Cortana happen to be on.

After we’re shown just how much a visual improvement Halo 4 will be getting over its predecessor, we see one of the new enemy types we’ll be fighting in Halo 4‘s campaign. The creatures look noticeably different from anything we’ve seen before in previous Halo games and, whatever they are, they’re clearly not organic.

One of the new features being introduced in Halo 4 was also shown off for the first time in the video, which is new vision modes for Master Chief’s visor. Unfortunately, we only get a brief glimpse of that before the mysterious synthetic creatures–which are suggested to have a link to the Forerunners–catch Master Chief by surprise.
