Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware Colleges On Alert For Shooting After 4chan Post: Philly-Area College Students Alerted After Oregon Shooting [Video]

If you are a student who attends a Philadelphia-area college, authorities are alerting you to a non-specific threat for Philly-area colleges. According to NBC Philadelphia, a threat found on 4chan referenced the Oregon shootings and somehow related that threat to Philadelphia-area colleges without naming a specific college that might be the target of a shooter.

Although 4chan references to the Oregon shooting were discounted, with some believing that Oregon shooter Chris Harper-Mercer might have posted a warning on 4chan prior to the horrific shootings, this new threat against Philadelphia-area colleges is still being issued without folks taking any chances.

Live updates about the Philly threat are flowing into Twitter.

As seen in the below image, it was a troubling post on 4chan that set off the warning to colleges in Philadelphia. Titled “The Beta Rebellion has begun” and posted by an anonymous 4chan user on Friday, October 2 at 10:16 a.m., the post warns about the fear that the Oregon shootings caused.

“The first of our kind has struck fear into the hearts of America. His cries have been heard, even by the President. This is only the beginning. The Beta Rebellion has begun. Soon, more of our brothers will take up arms to become martyrs to this revolution.”

That’s when the 4chan user specifically targets Philadelphia with a post about shootings or some other violence that may occur at Philly-area colleges. And the 4chan user posts a specific time on Monday, October 5 at 1 p.m. CT — which is telling because they use Central Time instead of 2 p.m. ET — about when “victims” will cower in fear.

“On October 5, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. CT, a fellow robot will take up arms against a university near Philadelphia. His cries will be heard, his victims will cower in fear, and the strength of the Union will decay a little more. If you are in that area, you are encouraged to stay at home and watch the news as the chaos unfolds. His sacrifice will echo throughout the nation.”

The writer from 4chan goes on to use dramatic language to describe what they claim will be a revolution in Philadelphia and change history.

“I plead to thee, brothers! We only have but one chance, one spark, for our revolution. The United States will soon condemn us to the status quo forever, and soon after, the United Nations. Don’t let our one chance at writing history slip away. Martyr yourself for the cause or support those who have the courage to do so. We have the chance to make the world a better place for betas everywhere. Hiro have mercy on us all. Lend us your strength to fight this evil.”

Due to this threat, the Washington Post reports that officials have issued warnings for Philadelphia colleges and universities just to be safe. The mention of “Hiro” might refer to Hiro Nakamura, a fictional character from Heroes, and represent the 4chan user simply playing around on the internet. However, such serious threats could likely cause major disruptions in the Philadelphia area and cause college students to stay home in the wake of such terrorist threats.

Whether the 4chan threats were made by someone playing around online to see their impact upon Philly-area schools or represent a real threat against Philadelphia colleges, the person making the terrorist threats will likely be in a world of trouble once found.

Schools like Temple University warned their students about the threat against Philadelphia colleges and universities on Twitter.

According to NJ.com, Delaware, New Jersey, and Philadelphia colleges are on high alert after the threat but classes are still resuming, which has some students claiming classes should be closed.
