Amber Rose Sends Message To Exes During SlutWalk — ‘I Forgive You’

Amber Rose wants her fans to know that the best way to heal after encountering misogyny is to forgive. And to prove it, she publicly forgave the two men who have hurt her most.

According to TMZ, in a tearful speech during an event she organized called SlutWalk, Amber Rose publicly forgave her ex-husband, Wiz Khalifa, and her ex-fiancé, Kanye West, for hurtful comments both made about her earlier this year. According to Rose,Wiz Khalifa released a song where he called her “just a stripper” in reference to her career before she became a model. During a feud between Rose, Blac Chyna, and the Kardashian sisters, Kanye West showed support for his wife by bashing Rose in interviews. Kanye claimed that his wife, Kim Kardashian-West, insisted he take 30 showers before they started dating because of his association with Amber Rose.

Rose, model and author of the upcoming book, How to Be a Bad B***h, told the crowd that she had forgiven both men for their insults, because it was the only way to move on. Rose also clarified that, while Wiz Khalifa apologized to her for his insults, Kanye West had not.

“I suggest that you forgive them… People are ignorant, at times. And you have to be the bigger person, the positive person, to forgive and move on, and help other people around you that have been through the same thing.”

Unfortunately, the response to Amber Rose’s SlutWalk hasn’t been totally positive. Some took issue with the title of the event, while others took issue with Amber Rose hosting it. Many of the social media comments accuse Rose of being a “slut,” and call her selfish for partying even though she has a 2-year-old son with Wiz Khalifa, the very insults Rose organized the SlutWalk to fight against.

Rose’s SlutWalk was organized through her non-profit organization, The Amber Rose Foundation. The Amber Rose Foundation website list its mission as promoting “discussion about women’s rights and equality issues” with a focus on “women empowerment and fighting against victim blaming.” With that goal in mind, a SlutWalk seems like the perfect event for the Amber Rose Foundation to organize. The Amber Rose Foundation set up a GoFundMe page to support their work. As of October 4, the GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $56,000. $14,000 of the total donations came from Amber Rose’s mentor and manager, Nick Cannon, who also attended SlutWalk to show his support.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Amber Rose’s SlutWalk was modeled after a similar event that happened in Toronto in 2011. The original Toronto event was organized after a police officer told college students “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.” The Los Angeles Times reports that Rose’s SlutWalk drew a wide variety of people, from sex workers, to rape survivors, to fans of Amber Rose who hoped to spot celebrity attendees.

TMZ reports that media who attended Amber Rose’s SlutWalk were told to limit all questions to the event and her personal endeavors, but forbidden to ask any questions about Kanye West or Kim Kardashian. Letters given to reporters clarified that any outlet who violated those terms would be kicked out of the event.

Amber Rose is a self-described feminist and advocate for women empowerment. Rose first gained fame as a hip-hop video model, and so became a source of tabloid headlines when her one-year marriage to rapper Wiz Khalifa disintegrated after she reportedly discovered him in bed with another woman. Rose and Khalifa divorced, though the two maintain contact and share custody of their 2-year-old son, Sebastian.

Amber Rose’s first book, How to Be a Bad B***h, will be available October 27.
