WWE: Eva Marie Blamed For Carmella Injury At NXT House Show

The WWE Eva Marie era may have just claimed its first victim.

Eva Marie, a Total Divas star, has been a favorite backstage for quite some time though wrestling fans are not exactly connecting with her.

When it was announced that she would be repackaged for NXT, the organization’s developmental system, she was greeted with one of the most brutal fan reactions ever put on film.

WWE insisted that she had gone back to the drawing boards with her in-ring ability, and after a first match showed promise, it was clear from fan reaction that she wasn’t coming along fast enough and was a long way from the championship run rumored for her.

Now news reports from a Nashville house show indicates that Eva Marie may have injured Carmella in a one-on-one match, prompting “Please retire” chants from the audience in attendance, Cageside Seats reports.

The CSS article links out to Wrestling Inc for the initial coverage.

“The match ended pretty quickly as they went to a pin after Carmella took a bad bump and hurt her head. She was crying and Dr. Chris Amann came out with Drake Younger to check her out, then help her to the back.”

Twitter has taken notice of the WWE Eva Marie botch as well.

Jason Martin reveals a bit more of what happened.

He followed that tweet up a little later with this one.

This news definitely doesn’t get the Internet Wrestling Community (IWC) off Eva Marie’s back, and with rumors roiling that Eva Marie could be the next to wear the NXT Women’s Championship, this will likely rub many fans the wrong way as it already is online.

One commenter responded on the CSS piece that judging from Eva Marie’s in-ring work, “it was only a matter of time” before this happened.

“At the very least, she should be confined to performance center duty indefinitely until she can prove she can have a passable safe match,” another commenter said.

While the “hate train” has definitely left the station as another observer pointed out, some find it unfair to lay this at Eva Marie’s feet.

For starters, she is in developmental (read: where she needs to be to get better), and secondly, she would hardly be the first wrestler who worked too stiff and injured a fellow wrestler.

In fact, the Seth Rollins “buckle bomb” at Night of Champions was largely the cause of that “significant” injury endured by Sting at the company’s last pay-per-view.

Rollins is considerably more skilled in the ring than Eva Marie, yet he still caused an injury.

That’s just the nature of the business, supporters argue. Accidents happen, and until more is known about the Carmella injury, it is unfair to come after Eva Marie.

Many analysts believe that the IWC wants to come down harder on Eva Marie because she appears to be one of those superstars that the company wishes to push regardless of fan support (see: Roman Reigns last year at WrestleMania).

But what do you think, readers? Is the WWE Eva Marie run ill-conceived? Should her current push be halted until she gets more comfortable in the ring, or would you like to see her as the NXT Women’s Champion? Sound off in the comments section.
