‘Fear The Walking Dead’: Absolutely Everything We Know About The Season 1 Finale

With the season 1 finale of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead closing in fast, fans are wondering if all their questions will be answered and who will die in the finale. Here’s absolutely everything we know about what will happen in the finale.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers about AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you have not yet viewed all available episodes.

Fear The Walking Dead is the spin off series to AMC’s hugely popular, The Walking Dead. While it broke cable records when it debuted back in August, fans have been mostly divided over whether they like the show or not. Even with this division, Fear still manages to pull in a consistently decent viewer pool, whether this will follow through into season 1 though, is still up for debate. But, as we approach the season 1 finale of Fear The Walking Dead, here’s everything we know so far.

Who Will Die?

Considering the Walking Dead franchise is built largely on walkers and unpredictable deaths of main characters, Fear has a fairly large cast to choose from in relation to who might die in the season 1 finale. Many fans would be happy to see Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) die since his personality of “zombies are humans” closely resembles that of Hershel Greene’s opinion in season 2 of The Walking Dead. But, can Travis redeem himself before one of his zombie “friends” turn on him and make him one of the undead? Fear The Walking Dead showrunner, Dave Erickson, told The Hollywood Reporter that he wants fans to see the breakdown of Travis’ beliefs in relation to whether zombies are still human or not.

“Travis does believe in the good of people. He does believe that things can be made better and part of the season is, yes, breaking him down. It’s getting him to a place where he finally comes to terms with the fact that this world has changed in a way that he has a hard time identifying with. It doesn’t mean that he won’t be able to figure it out.”

So is it possible Travis could learn the zombies aren’t human any more by making the ultimate sacrifice? Considering The Walking Dead concentrates on the male lead of Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln), could Madison turn out being the main lead in Fear The Walking Dead after Travis is gone, effectively mirroring The Walking Dead with Rick losing his wife to a walker?

Along with fans predicting — or wanting — Travis dead, most of the other fan predictions of who will die in the season 1 finale of Fear The Walking Dead include, largely, any of the teen characters. But for Dave Erickson (in another interview with The Hollywood Reporter), he is warning Fear fans that episode 6 (entitled “The Good Man”) will be the deadliest episode so far.

“It will be the deadliest episode of the season. There’s a ticking clock. Travis, Madison, Daniel, Alicia and Chris are going to find out that their community isn’t safe anymore. They’re not going to have the protection that they thought they thought they would and they still don’t have their family back. Travis’ efforts to save Nick, Griselda and Liza didn’t work, and we don’t really get to comment on it. What Daniel did worked and now he has information and pieces that are going to enable the group to hopefully take some action going into the finale and try to save their people — and themselves.”

Will The Group Reunite?

At the moment there is a split in location for some of the Fear The Walking Dead main characters with the possibility of a larger split in the season 1 finale if the teaser video showing Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) begging his father not to leave is anything to go by. Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez) is in the medical facility that appears to be evacuated in the season 1 finale. It is assumed Nick (Frank Dillane) is also in this facility. With Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades) finding out in episode 5 (entitled “Cobalt”) that the L.A. quarantine zone is about to be abandoned and its inhabitants “humanely terminated,” it seems even if Liza and Nick find their way home, there will either be no one there because they evacuated in time, or there will be a mass of bodies (or walkers, depending on how effective the extermination is). Although, there is also the prospect of Dr. Bethany Exner (Sandrine Holt) holding true to her word and collecting Chris and Travis to safely evacuate them with the medical team, leading to a different split between the main characters. So will season 2 concentrate on getting the main cast back together again?

Colman Domingo stars as Victor Strand in AMC's Fear The Walking Dead

Who Is Victor Strand?

Speaking of Nick in the facility, will he escape with the new character called Victor Strand (Colman Domingo)? It seems he will. According to Dave Erickson, Strand “will be very important in how the season ends and where we go in season two.” According to another interview Erickson did with Yahoo!, Strand will “become the latest addition to [the] large blended family,” so it seems he and Nick will escape the facility and Victor, at least, will make his way to the core family group.

The Spin Off Of The Spin Off

Fear The Walking Dead: Flight 462 will premiere during the season 1 finale of Fear The Walking Dead. The miniseries will then premiere in 16 parts (of roughly one minute per episode) during AMC’s The Walking Dead and online. The culmination of this miniseries will see the arrival of a new season 2 character for Fear The Walking Dead. You can find out more about Flight 462 in this Inquisitr article.
