‘Duck Dynasty’ Stars Address Josh Duggar Scandal, Say That Anna Duggar Must Forgive Her Husband
Jase and Missy Robertson, from the hit reality television series Duck Dynasty, are speaking out about the Josh Duggar Ashley Madison scandal and affair. The Robertson family, much like the Duggars, are known for their conservative Christian values. Therefore, it seems it was only a matter of time before the Robertsons confronted the scandal with words of Christian wisdom. The couple spoke to Anna specifically when discussing the infidelity and explained that she must forgive her husband; however, that doesn’t mean she has to stay with him.
Entertainment Tonight spoke exclusively to Jase and Missy Robertson and the topic of Josh Duggar came up in the conversation. When asked what advice they would give to Josh and Anna during this time, the pair noted that Anna must forgive Josh, but that she has “every right” to leave him. Missy explained that the decision to stay or leave was entirely up to Anna and that forgiveness and staying married are not mutually exclusive. In fact, she said Anna has “every right” to leave since Josh chose to interrupt their marriage with the affairs.
“As far as the relationship, that’s gotta be her decision whether or not she wants to go on without him. She certainly has that right, because he interrupted their marriage with those affairs, but forgiveness is not really a choice, you know, if you want forgiveness from God.”
Jase expounded on the statement by saying that just because you forgive someone doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences for their actions. In other words, Anna must forgive Josh but that doesn’t mean she has to remained married. Both Duck Dynasty stars pointed out that “forgiving and forgetting are two different things.”
“She’s definitely a victim in this whole situation and, yes, [Josh] made some wrong decisions. But that’s something that, at the end of the day, when the cameras go away, that’s their life. They’re going to have to deal with it themselves and get past it and try to savor some of the experiences they had and memories, and also make a new life for themselves — whether it’s together or apart.”
Though Jase and Missy say that they have been faithful throughout their marriage, the Robertson family has experienced infidelity in the past. Jase’s brother, Alan, chose to stay with his wife, Lisa, after it was revealed that she had an affair with another man. Jase said it was difficult at first because his brother was hurting. In fact, Jase admits that he told Alan to leave Lisa following the affair.
“Lisa was running around on my brother and I was like, ‘Al, cut her loose.’ He chose to forgive her and welcome her back, and I was mad about that for probably about three or four years. In fact, so bad, me and Lisa, I didn’t even speak to her.”
However, Jase says it all turned out for the best as Lisa turned into a “great woman of God” and the two remain happily married. Therefore, the Robertsons say they can understand if Anna Duggar decides to forgive and welcome Josh back into her home, but the Christian faith does not require her to do so. They point out that God allows for divorce in situations such as the Duggars so she does not have to remain married just for the sake of her faith.
Meanwhile, other reports indicate that Anna Duggar is looking forward to a spousal visitation with Josh in rehab in the coming months and currently has no plans to divorce her unfaithful husband.
