Andy Samberg Leaving SNL


Andy Samberg is leaving Saturday Night Live. The comedian, who has been on the show since 2005, announced this week that he would not be returning to SNL for his eigth season.

Samberg told the NY Times:

“It’s an incredibly emotional and strange moment in my life. Obviously it’s not a huge shock, but I did officially decide not to come back.”

Samberg is the second member of the 2012 cast to announce their departure from the show. The cast of SNL gave Kristen Wiig a tearful and touching goodbye tribute during the show’s season finale.

Samberg said that he got a lot of advice from Wiig about moving on from the NBC latenight show.

Samberg said:

“She kept saying it just feels like it’s her time… I connect with that. Something about it just feels like it’s the moment. My contract’s up and I did so much more than I ever thought I would ever even do.”

Samberg played several character on the show but is best known for his Digital Shorts and music videos. Samberg, who is one third of the parody group Lonely Island, created several viral music videos for SNL with big name talent like Justin Timberlake and Natalie Portman.

Samberg has been slowly moving into feature films. He’s already starred in films like Hot Rod and Friends With Benefits. He’s also co-starring in a new movie alongside Adam Sandler, who also spent many years at SNL.
