Edward Scissorhands Or Edward Snowden? Twitter Comedian Up To 90,500 Followers After Jon Hendren Pranked HLN With Scissorhands Defense [Video]

The HLN hosts thought they were getting an Edward Snowden supporter. Instead, they got a big Edward Scissorhands fan. It all began because Snowden joined Twitter and quickly received one million followers. As such, Jon Hendren jumped from Twitter to HLN to put in his two cents. Jon’s comments about the man being a hero and isolated could’ve related to either Scissorhands or Snowden, and eventually the interview questions were applicable to only Scissorhands.

The YouTube video of the segment titled “Olympic-Level Troll Hijacks HLN Segment on Edward Snowden to Defend Edward Scissorhands” by EnergyMedia has grown to more than 25,000 views in the 15 hours since it was uploaded. Another version of the Scissorhands HLN prank video has gotten more than 250,000 views.

“Casting him out is completely wrong… just because he was created on top of a mountain…”

When Hendren mentioned Scissorhands by name and began making more references to the movie starring Johnny Depp, the HLN host quickly cut the interview short and thanked him for his appearance.

“He got scared when he poked a hole in a waterbed.”

On Twitter, Jon jokes about his Scissorhands hoax, and alludes to it in a way that apologizes in advance to all his new Twitter followers who found him because of the Scissorhands prank.

“Hello to all the new followers of me on here. I can’t wait to disappoint you. In all sincerity I really did believe we were talking about Edward Scissorhands.”

Some are praising Jon for his Scissorhands prank, while others are calling him names for comparing Snowden to Scissorhands. Either way, Hendren is getting a lot of attention for his Scissorhands answers, which, initially, could’ve related to Snowden in terms of likening him to a hero and a person who was extremely isolated.

“Saying that he couldn’t harm somebody with what he did — he could. Absolutely, he could.”

The fact that Jon jumped on HLN to defend Scissorhands has been reported by sites all over the world, such as the Guardian. The epic troll moment that turned from talk about the National Security Agency whistleblower Snowden to Scissorhands instead shows how easily a person can appear on TV as a supporter or expert in a certain field.

HLN’s Yasmin Vossoughian began her interview with Jon in a normal enough manner, and though it eventually devolved into a funny bit about Scissorhands instead of Snowden, it doesn’t mean that Yasmin wasn’t aware of what Hendren was doing, as many assume.

“Why is Snowden any different from ISIS?” she asked.

“He’s a hero, he’s doing what any one of us should’ve done in that situation,” Hendren replied.

Discussing Scissorhands instead of Snowden, Hendren’s segment was seemingly cut short once Yasmin likely realized where the talk was going. Either that, or Yasmin’s producers were telling her to cut it short in her ear without letting on that HLN had been pranked by a Scissorhands supporter instead of a Snowden support.

For his part, Hendren is up to 90,500 Twitter followers after his Scissorhands prank. Instead of answering questions about Snowden — who is up to 1.17 million Twitter followers as of this writing — Jon didn’t mention the Snowden controversy. Forget an HLN debate about whether or not Snowden should have such a large platform on Twitter — Hendren was all about the Scissorhands jokes. Apparently, those jokes worked really well, because Jon’s Scissorhands impassioned plea has won raves on the Interwebs.

“We’re treating him like an animal, somebody who should be quarantined and put away. Just because he was created on top of a mountain by Vincent Price, and incomplete, with scissors for hands and no heart… Edward Scissorhands is a complete hero…”
