Here’s Why Helen Mirren Won’t Do Nude Scenes Anymore – And, No, It’s Not Because Of Her Age

Helen Mirren may have some miles on her, but she is certainly a looker, albeit with more class and oomph. Despite her age, she hasn’t shied away from any roles that involve flaunting her body, until now.

Mirren has confirmed that she will no longer do nude scenes. In a recent interview, the senior actress revealed that she will no longer be baring her body in front of the camera anymore. She was chatting with Alan Cumming for his Remember That Time series on CBS.com, when he sneakily brought up her Saturday Night Live sketch, which had made the internet tizzy and revealed to the world that she indeed had “magical boobs.”

Incidentally, it seems the sketch was based on the fact that Mirren has participated in many nude scenes during her career that spans quite a few decades. Downplaying the effect her bosom has, Mirren said,

“I didn’t know my boobs were legendary. There are much more legendary boobs than mine. At first, I didn’t really want to do nude scenes. However, I eventually relented, partly because of the era when I started my career.”

The era that Helen Mirren was referring to was in the late 1970s. The suave and confident Mirren first stripped in front of the camera for 1979’s Caligula. She got such praise for her confidence; her bosom was nicknamed ‘pleasure pillows’ in the 2003 comedy Calendar Girls. Needless to add, Mirren is quite a seductress, and when her photos surfaced of her looking hot as ever in a red bikini in Italy, it again caused a flutter online. Thereafter, she had her own skit on Saturday Night Live which was suggestively titled “Helen Mirren’s Magical Bosom.” Nasim Pedrad confessed that, “Mirren’s breasts had magical powers that led her straight to titties heaven.”

Unfortunately, this raunchy side of Helen Mirren is now a thing of the past, confirmed the actress to Cumming, adding that her “pleasure pillows” are now reserved only for her husband.

“That’s the good thing about getting older. You don’t have to do that sort of thing any more… [Now] my pleasure pillows are purely for my husband.”

Interestingly though, it’s not her age, or what time has done, that is stopping Helen Mirren going full frontal in front of the cameras. Asked specifically if she was scared to do a nude scene, she clarified it is the desensitization of sex that caused her to make up her mind.

“I have, but you know, I thought, does it really matter? It seemed to be not a thing not to get your knickers in a twist over. I was doing nude scenes from the first moment I started doing movies. It was the era. I guess it’s even more so now. When I did the Caligula it was: ‘Shock, horror, XXX, only in porn cinemas’. Now, Game of Thrones at eight o’clock is everything we did in Caligula…”

Mirren will next be seen on the big screen playing in Trumbo. The movie has stars like Bryan Cranston as blacklisted Hollywood writer Dalton Trumbo, reported Sport Act. Mirren’s character Hedda Hopper, was one of America’s best-known gossip columnists, that had a penchant for sensationalism and feuding with her rivals. She also has another film in the pipeline with Ryan Reynolds, titled Woman in Gold,reported The Spreadit. While acknowledging the fact that Mirren is certainly a stunning lady, her age notwithstanding, he added,

“Everybody who meets her flirts with her. I don’t care who you are — guy, girl, fat, skinny, tall, short, gay, straight — everybody flirts with Helen Mirren.”

Helen Mirren is undoubtedly one of the brave actresses, who have never shied away from a challenging role. Perhaps it is indeed a loss for the film world that Mirren won’t be baring it all for the camera anymore.
