Demi Lovato Denies Ruby Rose Relationship Rumors In Topless Complex Photo Shoot & Interview

Demi Lovato is baring it all in the new issue of Complex Magazine. Lovato posed topless next to a banana for the cover shot and shared some intimate details about her life in the accompanying interview. She made sure to take the time to clear up some rumors, especially the ones that said she was getting it on with Orange Is The New Black star Ruby Rose.

When asked about Rose, Demi declares, “I did not have a relationship with Ruby Rose.”

But the question is, did the two of them ever hook up?

To that, Demi responded as follows.

“I don’t feel like any of my past or future – when it comes to relationships that may have happened or not have happened – are of any concern to anybody. What matters to me is my relationship with Wilmer [Valderamma]. We are in an amazing place. Rumors are rumors, and people are going to spread them. You can believe what you want, but no, I was not in a relationship with her.”

Hmm, not entirely a straightforward answer.

The Demi Lovato and Ruby Rose rumors began in 2013, when a lesser-known Ruby Rose tweeted that she had slept with Lovato. The tweet was later deleted, but Ruby never denied that it was true. According to Metro UK, Ruby then went on to tweet that she was taking a break from social media for a while because Demi’s fans were attacking her and calling her a “scorned ex-lover.”

But then Ruby retaliated with an Instagram post that read: ‘Im like the one person demi has slept with that didnt sell on naked photos of her so eff off.’

Demi has never made any statements related to the rumors until now, who based on a tweet from the Ruby Rose Twitter account, met her in 2011. Here’s what the tweet said.

“On a plus side I met Demi Lovato today at lunch and she is just magnificent.”

If you’re wondering why in 2015 there are still lesbian rumors swirling around Demi, “Cool For The Summer” is the answer.

The song feels a lot like Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” from a couple years back in that it sounds like it’s about girl on girl action. Demi isn’t as blatant about it as Katy was, but there are definitely some clues in there.

There’s also a line where Lovato sings “taste of the cherry,” which seems reminiscent of when Katy Perry sang about the “taste of her cherry chapstick.” But Demi denies that the two records sound alike.

“Sounds nothing like it,” she tweeted at the time. “And with all the advances we’ve made in the LGBT community … I think more than one female artist can kiss a girl and like it….. ;)”

But the real question remains: is the song inspired by the tryst between Demi Lovato and Ruby Rose?

We’ll probably never know for sure, but this statement from a rep in Demi’s camp provides a great insight into the inspiration behind the song.

“Demi’s just young and having fun,” the insider told BuzzFeed.

“She’s in the driver’s seat for the first time in her career and she’s going to sing about whatever she wants to sing about.”

The new Demi Lovato album is set to be released on October 16. In the Complex article, she said she hope this this body of work will be the one that earns her recognition at the Grammys.

“I know that I’m capable of getting there,” she told Complex. “I just want people to see it finally. When I say getting there, I don’t mean winning one. I just want to be nominated for one.”
