Bindi Irwin, whose Dancing With The Stars performances have impressed judges and viewers alike, stepped out with her boyfriend, professional wakeboarder Chandler Powell, for the first time. Chandler joined Bindi at CBS Television City, reports the Daily Mail, as Irwin prepared for a taping of Dancing With The Stars.
Bindi and Powell obligingly posed for photos before the taping commenced, and Irwin revealed that her boyfriend is a constant source of support. This week, Bindi danced with a sore ankle, which she hurt during a rehearsal, but the wakeboarder was there to help the Australian beauty.Bindi shared a photo of a moment with Powell over Instagram, captioning the black and white snap with loving words for her boyfriend. "Thank you for always making me laugh, helping me to ice my foot when it hurts, making me tea and hugging me when I'm tired. You're amazing," Irwin gushed.
The pair first met in 2013 when the American visited the Irwin family's Australia Zoo, reports the Daily Mail, and "[h]e tracked me down." Bindi confessed that he offered his email address, but explained "[i]f she doesn't want to stay in contact that's totally fine, but here's my email."
Irwin and Powell "stayed in touch and became great friends," Bindi revealed. But "I can't really say when it turned into more. It just evolved over time and bloomed into this wonderful thing," the Dancing With The Stars celebrity explained."Since then, our friendship has developed into something really special. We send a Snapchat or Skype each other. We're connected, which is so great," Bindi said, according to M magazine.
They've had to endure a long distance romance at times, according to the Daily Mail, since Powell travels for competitions, but now that Bindi is on American soil performing on Dancing With The Stars, it seems the pair are seeing much more of each other.
Bindi revealed that when they are apart, the pair keep in contact not just by FaceTime and Skype, but also the old fashioned way -- with letters. The rest of the Irwin clan approves of Chandler, and Bindi revealed that she's not sure "who loves him more -- me or Robert," explaining that her brother "approves" of her boyfriend.Chandler, for his part, seems smitten with the Dancing With The Stars beauty as well, living her a gushing birthday message on Instagram. M magazine reports that Chandler wished Irwin a "Happy Birthday to this gorgeous girl." He continued with his loving words, writing he feels "very blessed to have you in my life."
In an interview with M magazine in July, Bindi explained what she looks for in a partner. "He would have to be very kind and loyal," she said. "You've gotta love the outdoors, you've gotta be able to go camping and love wildlife and have that same passion for making the world a better place."
In a past interview, Bindi recalled a funny story about her father, conservationist Steve Irwin. According to M magazine, Bindi revealed that "Dad said that if I did find someone to date that he would have to prove himself by swimming across our largest crocodile pond!"Irwin explained her dad's advice, stating "if he made it to the other side, he could go out with me." When it comes to her boyfriend, however, "I don't think we're going to go to that extreme, but it would still certainly have to be a very tough person to date me."
It seems Bindi has found that person, and the pair seemed very much in love as Powell accompanied Irwin to her latest Dancing With The Stars taping.[Image credit: Tibrina Hobson / Getty Images]
