‘Black-ish’ Star Anthony Anderson Is Getting A Divorce, What Will Happen To His $18 Million Fortune?

There’s been a lot of divorce and breakup news this year in Hollywood, and it is always heartbreaking to hear long-term couples end their relationships.

The wife of Black-ish actor Anthony Anderson has filed for divorce, marking the end of their 20-year marriage.

TMZ reported that the actor’s wife, Alvina Stewart, cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. According to rumors, the couple has been living separately since April of last year. Many people noticed that Alvina did not attend the 2015 Emmy Awards night in which her husband was nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy for his role in the ABC sitcom, Black-ish. The last time the two were spotted together was at an event back in February 2014, BET reported.

Raina Falcon, Anderson’s spokesperson, confirmed that Anderson and Alvina indeed called it quits in April 2014 and said that they filed a formal petition to divorce on Friday. Just days before the divorce news made rounds in showbiz gossip sites, the Black-ish actor wrote on his Instagram: “I love my family, I love my job, I love my life. THAT is why I am successful.”

The 45-year-old actor and his wife Alvina had been together since high school and got hitched back in 1995. The pair were married for 20 years and share two kids: a 19-year-old daughter named Kyla, and a 15-year-old son named Nathan.

According to a recent report by TMZ, the mother of two is asking for “joint custody of the minor” and that “Anderson get reasonable visitation” of their 15-year-old son if she is granted “primary physical custody” of their son.

Division of Anderson’s earnings is also being discussed as Anderson’s wife is requesting for spousal support. However, how much she will receive has not been decided, although it may partially depend on whether or not the couple had a prenuptial agreement.

Since the divorce papers stated that the pair ended their marriage in 2014, Alvina may not have any claim to Anderson’s earnings since their separation.

The actor’s net worth is estimated to be around $18 million. According to reports, the actor earned $100,000 per episode, which made him one of the highest-paid actors on TV last year. He also produces the ABC’s hit TV sitcom, Black-ish, which recently kicked off its second season. Plus, his new Food Network series, Carnival Cravings With Anthony Anderson, has added to his income in recent months.

His acting portfolio also includes The Shield, The Departed, and Treme.

Despite their decision to end their almost two-decade-marriage, Anderson and his two kids maintain a good relationship. The actor shared an Instagram photo of him and his son at the recently concluded 2015 Emmy Awards. The two looked like they were enjoying each other’s company despite Alvina’s absence.

A Twitter post also hinted that he and his 15-year-old son attended a concert along with Anderson’s godson.

Still, there are people who are hoping that the news of their divorce is not true. “Y’all need to get y’all s-t together!!! 20 years…20 gottd-n years. You better not be with a white woman either,” wrote a concerned fan on the actor’s Instagram account.

Anderson, who portrays a father who cares so much about his family’s African-American identity in Black-ish, has yet to comment on their pending divorce proceedings. The actor has been active in promoting season two of Black-ish, which tackles the “complexities of the n-word,” according to BET.

The new season looks promising as Vox reported that the premiere episode was the highest-rated episode this week.
