WWE News: Update On The Rock’s Status For ‘Wrestlemania 32’

While The Rock will likely not wrestle Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 32, “The Great One” is currently penciled in to face Triple H at the big event, according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (via LordsOfPain).

It was reported earlier in the week that Lesnar currently has four possible opponents at Wrestlemania 32 in Dallas, Texas, next year. Those four names were “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns. Austin shot down the rumor via Twitter. The Rock appears to be headed in a different direction, and only Rollins and Reigns seem possible.

The intended direction of the company is to capitalize of the segment that The Rock, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and UFC champion Ronda Rousey had at Wrestlemania 31. After electrifying the crowd with his verbal banter, The Rock called Rousey into the ring to toss Triple H and lock McMahon in an armbar.

As the report mentions, the WWE was hoping to have Rousey be a part of the Wrestlemania 32 festivities. Ideally they wanted her to wrestle, either one-on-one vs. McMahon or as part of a mixed tag team match featuring all four individuals. However, Rousey recently revealed that she will not be able to appear at Wrestlemania 32 due to movie commitments.

The Rock 2

Therefore, that leaves just The Rock to face Triple H in the original plan. Last year, WWE aired a backstage segment on SmackDown with both Triple H and The Rock. After starting the conversation amicably, the two of the began to exchange words and teased getting in the ring to wrestle one last time.

It was also noted that this segment aired with the specific motive to have Rock and Triple wrestle at either Wrestlemania 31 or Wrestlemania 32. Since they merely had a segment at Wrestlemania 31, that could have easily been the planting of the seeds for a potential match next year.

It is still not confirmed that The Rock will wrestle next year, but with WWE looking to fill a 100,000 seat stadium to capacity, they will likely pull out all the stops and try to set up some memorable matches. In addition to Lesnar, Undertaker, Sting, and the current crop of top WWE superstars, adding The Rock to that mix would be like adding chocolate sprinkles to a golden Oreo cake.

One of the biggest movie stars in the world, and expecting a child with his girlfriend of nine years, The Rock is certainly a busy man but if he can find the time, he will likely jump at the chance to electrify his fans.
