‘Fear The Walking Dead’: Who Is Strand? Everything We Know So Far About Colman Domingo’s Mysterious Character

AMC has been forthright with introducing the new characters for their latest zombie apocalypse series, Fear The Walking Dead. However, there is one character whose identity has been shrouded in mystery, Strand. Let’s see if we can find out more about this new character who will be appearing in the upcoming Episode 5 (entitled “Cobalt”) of Fear The Walking Dead.

All fans know so far about Strand is that he is played by actor Colman Domingo thanks to his listing on Fear The Walking Dead’sIMDb page and the original cast announcement by Deadline that listed him as “a smart and sophisticated man with a mysterious past.” While IMDb has him credited for six episodes of Fear, it is for season 1 only as he is only listed as appearing in 2015 and not 2016. This doesn’t necessarily mean he will die in season 1, it just means he may have only filmed scenes for season 1 so far. Although it seems he has been credited for six episodes, yet will only appear from Episode 5 of Fear The Walking Dead. Once again, this may just be a crediting anomaly on either IMDb or AMC’s behalf, or it may mean he was originally in scenes in all episodes of season 1 of Fear The Walking Dead but his scenes were cut upon editing.

Up until now, that was all Fear fan knew about the character Strand. However, Digital Spy recently got the chance to ask a few questions about Colman Domingo’s character in Fear The Walking Dead. And it seems his character is a major spoiler!

“My character is kind of a spoiler – well, it’s definitely a spoiler! I can’t tell you very much. All we know is that he is Strand – he’s a very mysterious man with a mysterious past.”

Colman Domingo also admitted to Digital Spy that he knew very little about his character or Strand’s past. “The way our writers work, there are a lot of things that you may not know about your own character that you will find out later,” he explained, stating that it was exciting not knowing everything about the character he was playing, about having some air of mystery about Strand that will be unraveled at a later date. Could this mean that his character will live on into season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead? After all, what’s the point of a mysterious character background if the character dies within the last two episodes of season 1?

And, as the interview continued, it seemed Strand just might live on into at least season 2, with Colman Domingo admitting he hopes he doesn’t get bitten anytime soon. “Hopefully it won’t be me for a few years,” he admits.

The very first snippet fans got of Colman Domingo’s character was in the first sneak peek into Episode 5 of Fear The Walking Dead that screened after the conclusion of Episode 4 (“Not Fade Away”). As a previous Inquisitr article pointed out, Strand does appear in one short scene asking, “What kind of man puts his wife an children in the hands of strangers?” This snippet makes it seem like Strand is a part of the same medical group that Dr. Bethany Exner (Sandrine Holt) is with. Is he talking about the neighbor, Thompson, who had a meltdown in Episode 4 and either escaped or was taken away for “treatment”? Only time will tell, it seems.
