Warner Bros. Announces Guardians of Middle-Earth for PSN, XBLA

If you’re into Lord of the Rings and/or The Hobbit and you also happen to be a fan of MOBA games, Warner Bros. Interactive announced a new game today that is right up your alley: Guardians of Middle-Earth.

Warner Bros. Interactive says that Guardians of Middle-Earth is a downloadable title to be released this fall for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade that pits two teams of five against each other in MOBA-style battles.

A few of the heroes you’ll be playing as in Guardians of Middle-Earth, according to the press release, include the likes of Gandalf, Sauron, and Thráin. All in all, Warner Bros. says there will be over 20 “iconic heroes” in Guardians of Middle-Earth. A tie-in with The Hobbit is expected as well, with a number of characters from the film/books coming to the game.

“The MOBA genre is wildly popular with PC players and we are excited to bring it to consoles through the lore of Middle-earth,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development at WBIE. “The heroes and villains of Middle-earth are crafted in a way that perfectly intersects with MOBA game features, allowing the development team to create guardians with deep skills and abilities for gamers to master.”

E3 is just around the corner, so expect to see more on Guardians of Middle-Earth next week.
