‘El Chapo’ Guzman’s Mother Makes a Surprising Request To Her Son

“El Chapo” Guzman’s recent escape from Altiplano prison in Mexico made headlines, not only because he was the biggest drug trafficker in the country, but the way he did it, which was via a 1.5-kilometer tunnel. With a net worth of around a billion dollars, according to Forbes, “El Chapo” has the resources to bribe authorities and stay in hiding for a long time.

Collusion between the Altiplano prison staff and officials is said to have made “El Chapo’s” recent escape possible, and a total of 13 prison personnel were taken into custody for trial a few days ago. They included an ex-director general, nine monitors who worked in the control room, and the prison commander. This is as reported by the New York Times.

However, one woman who is close to “El Chapo” has come out publicly to make an appeal for him to change his ways, and she is 85-year-old Consuelo Loera – his mother. Unlike what most people would expect, she is said to live in humble surroundings devoid of luxuries, with the only modern item in her living room being an old television, reports Fusion.

During a recent interview with Univision News, she said that she wanted to make an appeal to “El Chapo” to seek God, as he is the only one who could save him from his troubles. The following was the statement as reported by Fusion.

“I want to tell him [‘El Chapo’] to look for God, before it’s too late. He already experienced what is out there in the world, so now he has to look for God, because God is the only one that can protect him and help him to sort out his problems.”

Consuelo Loera also stated that she was always praying for “El Chapo’s” safety and requested the Mexican authorities to treat him properly.

However, she avoided speculating whether “El Chapo” was guilty of the crimes he was being accused of, saying her only purpose was to speak as a mother. She also added that when children live under the care of their parents, it is easy to monitor them.

But once they go out there into the world, they can choose to make a living sometimes through good or bad ways as no one is watching over them. However, according to her statement, “we are still their mothers, and they are still our sons.”
