‘CSI’ To End 15-Year Run With A Two-Hour Series Finale

CSI fans rejoice, as there will finally be an opportunity to tie up some loose ends. The two-hour series finale will wrap up 15 years of the combination of crime and science, which changed the way forensic evidence is viewed around the world.

The Chicago Tribune explains that when the show launched, CBS wasn’t sure there would be an audience for prime time forensics, as it really hadn’t been done since Jack Klugman and Quincy, M.E. decades before. Jorja Fox, who plays Sara Sidle, thought shooting the pilot should be a means to an end.

“I figured there would be an audience for it,” says William Petersen, “among those people who do crossword puzzles. I never thought the audience would also be everyone who’s NEVER done a crossword puzzle!”

The two hour finale will bring back William Peterson as Gil Grissom and Marg Helgenberger as Catherine Willows to the original CSI in Las Vegas.

“What our show did was give you the truth,” he declares. “You can be confused about many things, but this little piece of lint that we found on the floor, you can count on that. Granted, it was just one small truth about one particular case, but it was something you could touch and see and trust in.”

CBS News says that series creator Anthony Zuiker is still pinching himself over the success of the franchise. The writer said he put himself through school at UNLV by writing the papers of other students, and writing love poems for guys who wanted to impress their girlfriends. Living in Las Vegas, Zuiker got the idea to write a show that was located in Vegas.

USA Today says the finale will bring the team back together for one final case.

“I think the fans would have been disappointed and upset if it just ended without any finality,” Helgenberger says, referring to CBS’s decision to give CSI a special sendoff after 15 seasons.

The last case will surround Grissom’s old friend, former dominatrix Lady Heather.

“It takes many twists and turns, but you’ll see a lot of old-school CSI in the storytelling, getting back to basic forensics,” Zuiker says.
