Rock in Rio 2015: Faith No More.

Faith No More, who are expected to perform at Rock in Rio tonight, has roots that date back to 1979, when the band was known as Sharp Young Men and included Billy Gould and Mike Bordin, reports NPR. Faith No More’s Grammy-nominated “The Real Thing” released in 1989 was the first single to garner the punk/rock band attention, but “Epic” was their breakthrough hit. Ultimate Classic Rock describes “Epic” as Faith No More’s “signature tune.

Heavy metal rock kings Slipknot are scheduled as the final act to appear in Rio tonight. All Music describes Slipknot as “masked metalheads” who play “brutal, agitated, noisy rock.” Slipknot formed in 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa, and were signed to Roadrunner Records in 1997 and merited a spot on the Ozzfest tour, which “greatly expanded” their audience. The band reached platinum status in 2000.

Rihanna was only 7 years old when Slipknot first formed. The Barbados native caught the attention of Jay Z with Def Jam records in 2004 and was subsequently signed. People reports that “Umbrella“, from the Good Girl Gone Bad album, was Rihanna’s breakthrough single, which topped charts and earned her a Grammy Award. Rihanna’s 2010 album, Loud, brought another Grammy Award and nominations. Aside from being a renowned signer, Rihanna is also famous as a model and has reportedly insured her legs for $1 million.

Rock in Rio 2015: Rihanna set to perform on Saturday.

Katy Perry is set to perform on Sunday at Rock in Rio 2015. Perry is just a few years older than Rihanna, and her career is perhaps equally as prolific. Perry’s first album, Katy Hudson, released in 2001, did not fair well commercially, but she persevered and it paid off. In 2008, her controversial breakthrough single “I Kissed A Girl” rose to the top of the singles charts and is described as a “lusty love letter to lip balm” by Official Charts. Perry is reported to have had 15 singles reach the top 40. Katy Perry has also begun to make a name for herself as an actress. She appeared in the 2011 film The Smurfs, and the 2013 sequel, The Smurfs 2, reports IMDb.

The second weekend of the Rock in Rio 2015 festival looks set to be just as big as the first, with something to offer almost any music fan, from its core rock audience, to fans of just about every other type of popular music.
