Huntington Beach Hero Kicked Off Football Team: School Officials Refuse To Change Their Minds

The Huntington Beach hero, who stopped a blind kid from being attacked by a bully at Huntington Beach High School, just received more bad news.

Cody Pine has not only been kicked off the high school football team, but he will not be reinstated under any circumstances for violating the school’s “zero-tolerance” policy on violence.

There have been more than 1,000 signatures showing support, but the school isn’t budging, although they did release this statement, as reported by the Daily Mail.

“The school is now responding to this isolated incident by interviewing students and witnesses to determine exactly what happened. Additionally, the school is working with local authorities to define the appropriate actions necessary once all of the information is collected.”

“Huntington Beach High School firmly believes that all students are afforded an opportunity to learn in a safe and secure environment. Because of this, safety is the highest priority. Huntington Beach High School has a very strong anti-bullying code of conduct and will not condone this type of behavior from any student.”

Others hoping to downplay the “blind kid bully” element to the story have noted that the altercation between the blind student and the “bully” student had “nothing to do with” his blindness, Opposing Views points out.

Still, some commenters have attested that whenever you lay your hands on a person who cannot see in a violent manner as the bully in the video did, that person’s blindness is an issue of importance and concern.

“Unless that blind kid was Rutger Hauer from Blind Fury and skilled in the art of the samurai, there’s no excuse for it,” wrote one commenter on Facebook.

Most agreed, noting that the “Huntington Beach hero” should be “given a medal in front of the entire school at a special assembly to honor him,” adding that they shouldn’t be “trying to suspend him.”

Another pointed out the lack of nuance to the school’s zero-tolerance policy as problematic.

“Zero tolerance means that even if this kid had tackled an active shooter in his school killing his friends he would still be kicked off the football team. That is why progressive teachers are making our students dumber.”

What do you think about this particular case, readers?

Should the school be given a little slack for their hard line against violence in kicking Pine off the football team or does the Huntington Beach hero deserve special consideration for coming to the aid of this blind student? Sound off in the comments section below.
