Kurt Sutter Takes Bloody Direction With Newest Show, And It’s A Hit!

Kurt Sutter made a name for himself with his show, Sons of Anarchy, and now, he has to live up to that name. It seems that hasn’t been a problem for the actor/screenwriter/producer/director as he debuts his newest addition to the small screen, The Bastard Executioner. The new show premiered on the FX Network on September 15, and its initial ratings were incredible, coming in third place behind AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and Better Call Saul, according to Deadline.

The Bastard Executioner (or TBX) is definitely full of violence, but Rolling Stone reports the reason for that, according to show creator Kurt Sutter, is because that time and place in human history was violent.

“It was a highly rebellious period, a very dangerous period. Violence, it is definitely a part of their life.”

Kurt Sutter has certainly excelled in his work by creating shows people love. Ed Sheeran was even on Twitter, shouting out in anticipation of the TBX series premier.

But even though he does his job well, Kurt Sutter is the first to admit he is dark, says Hollywood Reporter.

“The reason why I embrace it and why I joke about it is because it is who I am in terms of tone and creativity, meaning it’s not bulls**t that I’m a dark motherf***er and I say very disturbing things in a creative way. I can scare the f*** out of people sometimes, but even in my darkest moments, even when I’m punching holes in f***ing walls, all of that s**t happens because of my passion for what I’m doing.”

Kurt Sutter certainly has, shall we say, an elegant way of describing himself and how he works. Regardless, he gets the job done and done well, which is evident even in the promotional trailer for the new show.

Not everyone is a fan of TBX, though, with a number of comparisons to Game of Thrones, such as the one in Entertainment Weekly that calls TBX a lightweight Game of Thrones.

“But as the latest expression of Epic TV, it’s a lightweight Game of Thrones, and sluggish one at that. There’s promise, but for now, the rewards are few, and even then, I worry.”

Will Kurt Sutter’s new epic creation keep the momentum going? Only time will tell, but Sutter has other plans in the works with his idea for a prequel to the already-popular Sons of Anarchy.

Whichever way his new show swings, Kurt Sutter is not a name to be forgotten anytime soon.
