‘Star Wars’: Princess Leia Bikini Scene In ‘Return Of The Jedi’ Was Not That Exciting

Star Wars’ Princess Leia in a bikini made headlines at the time the Return of the Jedi was released in 1983. However, according to actor Anthony Daniels, who portrays droid C3PO, it wasn’t that exciting to see Carrie Fisher displaying so much skin.

As the release of the next Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, approaches, Daniels is opening up about reprising the iconic role. The actor spoke about his co-stars and his some times contentious relationship with Kenny Baker, who plays the adorable droid R2 D2.

One of the most interesting revelations Daniels shared was, what really happened when Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) was forced to wear that tiny gold bikini. In the famous scene, Star Wars villain, the gruesome Jabba the Hutt, is holding Leia as his slave and she is seen wearing the revealing costume and a chain around her neck.

At the time, Star Wars fans were shocked by Princess Leia’s bikini, which was recently put up for sale at Hollywood memorabilia auction house, Profiles in History, according to a report in Digital Spy. It will be sold later this month.

Anthony Daniels said the Star Wars scene of Princess Leia in her bikini took three long days to film and the rest of the cast actually “got bored and quite tired of looking at Carrie in her gold bikini.” The actor added Fisher was extremely uncomfortable with the costume, but of course never complained because she is a professional.

Through the years, we have also found out that there were several Princess Leia costumes made for the bikini scene because of Fisher’s weight loss during the production. In addition, six stills of the actress posing with what is some pieces of metal and plastic tied together display the Star Wars movie’s original name, Revenge of the Jedi.

In a 2014 Q&A, while in London filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Carrie Fisher was asked if she still keeps Princess Leia’s bikini.

“Why would I keep a stupid outfit like that? So that years later I could say to you I have it?”

“(I wear it) on special occasions. I’ve got it on underneath this. I wear it always, for luck.”

Fisher also confessed that she really enjoyed killing the disgusting Jabba the Hutt and in her opinion it was her best moment in any of the Star Wars movies.

“I had a lot of fun killing Jabba the Hutt. They asked me on the day if I wanted to have a stunt double kill Jabba. No! That’s the best time I ever had as an actor. And the only reason to go into acting is if you can kill a giant monster.”

As for Anthony Daniels, he also made some controversial comments about the aging of his Star Wars co-stars and how the passing of time hasn’t been kind to all. According to the British actor, Harrison Ford (Han Solo) “was just brilliant” and always made him smile and at 72-years-old still has that same charm and charisma.

However, Daniels made headlines with his comments about Carrie Fisher, who has battled bipolar disorder since the two met in 1977, and Mark Hamill, who suffered a serious car accident that disfigured his face after A New Hope.

“Poor Mark. He was a young lovely looking lad when he was first Luke Skywalker and now… well…”

Daniels also addressed the long-standing feud with Kenny Baker, who plays R2 D2 and once called his co-star “the rudest man he ever met.” Despite being attached at the hip in the Star Wars original trilogy, the two droids disliked each other in real life and Daniels doesn’t comment on the unpleasant statements directed at him.
