Glenn Close Divorces Third Husband To Focus On Movies And Stage: To Play Iconic Role In ‘Sunset Boulevard’ [Video]

Glenn Close has managed to stay mostly under the publicity radar in divorcing David Shaw, her third husband. Married for nine years, Glenn and David had previously revealed to pals that they were separating, and now Close has sealed the split deal, reported Fox News.

Shaw and Glenn tied the knot in 2006 in Maine. But the divorce now means separating geographically as well, said an insider. Close plans to head back to New York to boost her professional acting success, while David will stay in Maine.

The duo have been apart for awhile, according to that source, and they are on good terms.

“They’ve been separated for some time, and things are amicable between them,” said the insider.

As for when the marriage officially went kaput, Glenn’s spokeswoman revealed that the legal deal occurred over the summer.

Close has one offspring, a 27-year-old daughter Annie Maude Starke, whose father is Glenn’s previous partner John Starke.

With that third marriage behind her, Close previously has shared her feelings on the institution in general, reported Page Six.

Following Glenn’s wedding to James Marlas, Close opined that she feels men and women are so different that marriage causes excess pressure.

“Too many women define themselves in terms of a man.?.?.I think of men and women as two different species. Katharine Hepburn said they should live next door and visit each other once in a while…I don’t particularly think marriage is a natural state..?.?. Why put more pressure on by binding yourself to someone?”

While Glenn puts this most recent marriage behind her, Close has a busy future both in film and on the stage. Nominated six times for an Oscar, Glenn will start filming Wilde Wedding with John Malkovich. The two have not worked together since 1988.

In addition, Close will again tread the stage boards in Sunset Boulevard playing Norma Desmond. That reprisal will take place in London next April.

Glenn is also finalizing the negotiations for a starring role in an upcoming major film, Bastards, reported Deadline.

In addition to Close, who is still negotiating the final deal, the cast of the comedy stars J.K. Simmons, Owen Wilson, Ed Helms, Terry Bradshaw, and Ving Rhames. The plot features Helms and Wilson as brothers with a wacky mom who makes up a story about their dad. When the siblings discover that she lied about their father, they set a goal of locating him.
