Leonardo DiCaprio’s Mona Lisa? Fox News Presenter Goofs Up During Broadcast, Sends Twitter Into A Frenzy [Video]
Leonardo DiCaprio may be the Renaissance Man of Hollywood, but it seems Fox News presenter Shepard Smith took the title a little too literally.
On Thursday, the host bungled up big time when he mistakenly attributed Leonardo da Vinci’s immortal painting Mona Lisa to the Hollywood A-list actor. Smith made the error while introducing a segment about Leonardo da Vinci’s Renaissance masterpiece that continues to puzzle researchers and art historians, according to the Independent.
The actual identity of the person behind history’s most enigmatic smile has been the subject of much debate over centuries. In the last four years, scientists and archaeologists have dug up human remains in Florence and are now excavating the bones of a certain Lisa Gherardini, believing she might be the woman who posed for Leonardo da Vinci’s timeless work of art.
Introducing his viewers to an update in the investigation being carried out by the scientists, Shepard accidentally blurted out Leonardo DiCaprio’s name instead of the Italian polymath.
“An update from scientists trying to identify the model for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Mona Lisa. After digging up some woman’s remains and putting it through DNA testing it seems they are no closer to knowing the smile men [inaudible]. Stay tuned.”

It seems Smith realized his mistake by the time he ended his segment, as is apparent from his disconsolate body language, but the damage was already done by then. Though he later rectified the hilarious error, videos of him bungling up have already been doing the rounds on the Internet, with viewers taking to Twitter to express their reactions.

Another user quipped in the following manner.

However, this is not the first time that Fox News presenters have pulled off embarrassing gaffes in front of millions of their viewers on live television. Bill O’Reilly, the Fox News presenter who has been dubbed as the network’s “chief racist” by the Internet, once called a black PhD. holder a “coke dealer”, while another host once declared that “crack babies” were coming from women smoking cannabis.

Well, in any case, at least this time a presenter has not vilified anyone. If anything, Leonardo DiCaprio might only be too pleased to find himself being compared to one of the world’s most enlightened minds ever.
