Morena Baccarin And ‘Gotham’ Co-Star Dating And Expecting

Apparently, cupid has turned his eye to Gotham City, and the stork isn’t far behind.

Earlier this week, E! Online broke the news that Gotham co-stars Morena Baccarin and Ben McKenzie are dating. Baccarin and McKenzie’s on-screen counterparts are also romantically involved. Morena Baccarin and Ben McKenzie went public with their relationship over Emmy weekend.

The timing of the couple’s revelation wasn’t related to the second season premiere of Gotham, which aired Monday, September 21. In July, Morena Baccarin and her husband, writer/director Austin Chick, filed for divorce after three and a half years of marriage. Austin Chick cited irreconcilable differences when he filed the divorce documents. Chick requested joint custody of their 1-year-old son, Julius Chick, and spousal support, because Morena Baccarin was the primary bread-winner of the family. And that’s where things get interesting.

According to celebrity news site TMZ, Baccarin filed documents on Thursday, September 24, in which she asked for sole custody of her 1-year-old son. In the documents, Baccarin cited distance as the primary reason for sole custody. Baccarin lives and works in New York City, while her estranged husband lives in Los Angeles. Baccarin also gave a secondary reason for joint custody not to be awarded to Chick. She can’t fly, because she’s pregnant with co-star Ben McKenzie’s baby.

According to TMZ, Morena Baccarin is at the end of her first trimester. That would mean that Baccarin is able to fly now, but is asking the judge to grant her sole custody now because eventually she won’t be able to fly. Reportedly, the couple is excited about their upcoming new addition.

Could the couple have gone public during Emmy weekend because they knew their relationship would be revealed soon?

So far, there is no official word from Morena Baccarin, Ben McKenzie, or the producers of Gotham. There has also been no word on how Baccarin’s pregnancy will be worked into the second season of Gotham.

Morena Baccarin is known for her role in the cult classic television series Firefly. Baccarin rose to fame as the estranged wife of Nicholas Brody on the critically acclaimed Showtime series, Homeland. Ben McKenzie rose to fan on the Fox series The O.C., a soapy drama about affluent teenagers living in Orange County, California. Currently, Baccarin and McKenzie co-star in the FOX series, Gotham, a prequel to Batman, which follows the life of Police Commissioner James Gordon, now in its second season. Gotham airs Monday nights.
