‘Batman V Superman’ Director Zack Snyder Says ‘Dawn Of Justice’ Is ‘Man Of Steel 2’

With Warner Bros. planning a number of DC Comics based films in the coming years, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, a sequel to Man of Steel seems to have gotten lost in the mix. However, as director Zack Snyder recently explained, Batman v Superman could be considered a sequel to Man of Steel.

“I think in a way Batman v Superman is Man of Steel 2,” he told Screen Crush. “Justice League is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It’d be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be.”

While fans may have been disappointed by the fact that Warner Bros. has decided to put Man of Steel 2 on hold, at least Superman will be featured heavily in Batman v Superman and the two Justice League films.

Meanwhile, Snyder’s comments came during his appearance at the 10th annual Crash the Super Bowl competition, sponsored by Doritos. According to Canoe, Snyder went on to discuss his own early interests in The Dark Knight Returns comics by Frank Miller and also talked about the need to make his upcoming superhero movies unique in a somewhat oversaturated market.

“The pressure’s on us, the filmmakers, to make the movies better,” he stated in the interview. “It’s about human stories; it’s not just about big explosions and stuff. What are these people feeling?”

In regards to digging a little deeper into the characters that make up these stories, Snyder is confident that Batman v Superman will accomplish this by looking at the backstories of both superheroes.

“We really have to figure out the why of them. And I think that we have,” he explained. “That’s the one thing that’s cool to me about Batman v Superman, it’s all about the mythology of these two massive icons. And I think that’s compelling.”

Meanwhile, although Warner Bros. might not be making a Man of Steel 2 anytime soon, the studio does have plans for a number of standalone superhero films to be released as early as 2017. These movies will feature the storylines of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Green Lantern.

For his part, Snyder will be directing both Justice League movies in addition to his upcoming Batman v Superman, which stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016.
