‘Fuller House’s’ Candace Cameron-Bure Talks About DJ Tanner All Grown Up

Candace Cameron-Bure is all grown up from when we remember on Full House, which means that her character DJ Tanner, who she’ll reprise in the Fuller House spin-off went through some obvious changes.

Speaking with TVLine, Candace Cameron-Bure opened up about DJ’s changes for the new Netflix series. In the series Fuller House, DJ is a single mother to three boys, after her husband dies.

Bure told TVLine about DJ Tanner-Fuller’s mindset. “She’s in mom mode, full-time. She’s not a teenager anymore, but she’s still really fun. She also has to keep three boys under control without a husband, so she’s got to be a disciplinarian. If you were that teenage girl who wished that DJ was your sister, or wished that she was your best friend, you’ll be really happy with how she is as a mom.”

That said, although a lot has changed for DJ, including a new last name, that doesn’t mean the show is going to stray from it’s lighthearted and fun atmosphere. Although it may not be a multi-camera show, Fuller House will keep the spirit of Full House in tact.

“Tonally, the show is very much the same, but it’s updated. I’m sure a few of the jokes are a little bit racier now than they would have been in the ’90s, but it’s still nothing that’s inappropriate or that you would feel uncomfortable watching with your kids. We’re three grown women, and I have to say, we’re all pretty good-looking, too. [Laughs] We have some cute guys on the show, too, so that’s fun.”

One hint of this is Fuller House’s logo, which is identical to the very 90s and cheesy logo of Full House.

Another hint is that DJ Tanner is no longer pregnant with her third child. In the original version of Fuller House, she was a pregnant widow, but it was decided that might be too dark for the series. At the time, Bure told Zap2It, “The baby’s been born, I think for that very reason we didn’t want to start it out quite so heavy, so some more time has passed than they originally intended.”

Although she’s probably going through a heard time with the loss of her husband, we have a feeling DJ Tanner will find love again. As it is, Scott Weinger, who played DJ’s teenage boyfriend Steve on Full House is back on board. That said, Bure was tight lipped about his role.

Fuller House will be released on Netflix in 2016.
