‘GTA V’ Community Discovers Bigfoot… Again

The ever-vigilant GTA V community has found another Bigfoot Easter egg. According to gaming site Kotaku, attention was drawn to the possible existence of another Bigfoot Easter egg when the achievement “cryptozoologist” came embedded in an update last week. GTA’s highly dedicated community of dataminers went hunting and found audio and other files that seemed to relate to Bigfoot. But the final glory went to player rkRusty who found the location of a brand new peyote plant at: -1472.531, 4439.456, 18.862:

Eating this peyote plant resulted in the character morphing into a drug-crazed Sasquatch, allowing the player to tear around GTA causing simian-style mayhem. You can watch player 2H2K going through the process here.

According to the various GTA players who have unlocked this, there are a number of different conditions for making this Easter egg work. Unfortunately, no two players seem to agree on any of them. The location on the GTA map is solid, but there are conflicting accounts as to pretty well everything else.

rkRusty says that it needs to be a foggy Tuesday at between 5:30 and 8:00 in the morning, playing as any character, but with all other peyote events complete. There are 27 peyote events in GTA V, not including this new one. According to nicky041192, however, it is not fog, but snow that is required. Either way, nicky041192 has helpfully posted a cheat code that will enable players to change the weather in GTA at will. And in a satisfying vindication of the dataminers, the new GTA Easter egg is associated with the audio files that they found: PEYOTE_ATTRACT_SASQUATCH.

The recent confirmation that no new story DLC is likely to come out very soon was a major disappointment to a lot of fans. The reasoning given was that Rockstar’s entire GTA team was working on GTA’s online experience, to the exclusion of all else. VG24/7 also made a persuasive argument that what we see now is what we can expect for the future, with no more heists and no more love for legacy consoles like the Xbox360 and PS3. “GTA V is dead” and GTA Online is what we are left with, according to them. As well as this, it’s widely believed that Rockstar’s next big release is likely to be associated with their other gaming monolith Red Dead Redemption, so no GTA VI any time soon. But VG24/7 pointed out that fans are likely to gain consolation from regular and frequent evolutions of GTA and it seems that this most recent hidden gem is an excellent example, if gamer reactions on the various forums are anything to go by.
