Jealous Man Jailed 10 Years After Biting Girlfriend’s Ear Off, Breaking Arm Because She Received A Compliment From Another Man In A Bar

A jealous man received 10 years in prison for a violent attack on his girlfriend where he bit her ear off and broke her arm because she received a compliment from another man, according to the Mirror. On April 18, 48-year-old Michael Missin of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, was found guilty of causing “grievous bodily harm with intent to kill” his girlfriend Jane Hamilton.

The incident came about after the couple was having a few drinks at a bar and a man approached Hamilton and paid her a compliment. Missin became irate, which started an argument between the two, and Hamilton went home alone. Missin, who was intoxicated at the time, arrived at her Lindley home just a short moment later where the attack began. According to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, Missin wanted to teach her a lesson by biting her ear off and breaking her arm in the horrifying attack so that men would no longer be attracted to her.

The jealous man was later arrested for viciously attacking his girlfriend, and he later appeared at Leeds Crown Court where Judge Robert Bartfield told him, “You told her son she had been cheating on you and that in my judgment is a reference to what had happened in the public house. She hadn’t been cheating on you but you resented the compliment paid to her.”

“Once alone in the house with Jane you carried out a savage assault on her, which was by way of punishment for her temerity receiving a compliment from a man in a public house,” the judge continued. “You began it by dragging her around the room by her hair, pulling her hair out. Then you stamped on her, breaking her arm and then, probably in the long term most serious of all in my judgment you took the deliberate decision to disfigure her by biting her ear.”

“That’s when I am satisfied you bit off a piece of her ear so men wouldn’t compliment her again, to teach her a lesson. Your defense to the jury of never having laid a finger on her that she must have fallen over or somebody else must have done this was ridiculous and understandably rejected by the jury.”

After 12 jurors found Michael Missin guilty of attacking his girlfriend, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by a four-month concurrent sentence for attacking Hamilton’s friend Kelly Pearson. He was also ordered to pay a $1,200 charge to the criminal court.
